Mohammed Shami in his recent conversation with Youtuber Shubhankar Mishra spoke about various faces of the Indian cricket team. He spoke about India’s T20 World Cup win, Missing out from the tournament, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and also about the Impact Player rule in the IPL.
Shubhankar Mishra before hosting Mohammed Shami hosted Amit Mishra for a chat and he made some serious and pathbreaking revelations about MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma. In the show besides supporting his Indian teammates, he blasted Amit Mishra for his comments as well.
A big part of this conversation was about the Impact Player rule which is the innovation in the IPL over the last two years, During IPL 2024, even Rohit Sharma expressed his views on the rule saying that it cuts down the importance and significance of all-rounders by a big margin.

Taking a queue from Rohit’s response Sami also gave his opinion on the same. He said that there is enough depth with both bat and ball in the Indian XI and there should be a way to promote bowling all-rounders in the team. He said that the Indian bowlers score runs but they need a lot of practice.
Backing Rohit’s point on the Impact player rule Shami said “The normal regular game of cricket is a better option. The impact player rule does allow teams to score more runs. If the batting team bats well they will prefer a bowler in the XI and the chasing team will opt for a batter in place of a bowler. In all of this an all-rounder has to pay the price because the team needs a pure bowler.” said Shami.
“However, if the game of cricket is played on the normal set of rules with 11 players. You have to bat and bowl with the same players in the squad. Thus the point said by Rohit is very valid as he truly said that the Impact Player rule allows a few teams to hide their weaklings” Shami said further.
Impact Player Rule A Result Of Public Demand: Mohammed Shami
Shubhankar Mishra the host of the show then asked Shami about the pitches that are in use today in the IPL. The question was part of the Impact Player discussion as well. He said that a few Indian bowlers in his show have spoken about how pitches in the IPL have taken out the difference between bat and ball.
Replying on the same Shami said “Rules in modern cricket are against the bowlers. Add-ons are happening to keep the game batting-friendly. The fans only want to see big hits as they enjoy seeing fours and sixes being hit. The wickets are flat. People did not enjoy watching matches in the US in drop-in pitches. Fans enjoyed watching the matches in West Indies with teams scoring over 200.”
Shami concluded his point on the Impact Player rule saying that the board is forced to make and change the rules based on the fan following. He said that the rules are bent towards what is liked by the fans and general crowd.
He said that the evolution of the game of cricket from ODI to T20 cricket to T10 cricket now is only a result of the demands of the general public.
