Pakistan National Cricket Team’s campaign in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is turning into a nightmare as the hosts find themselves on the brink of elimination.
Consecutive defeats at the hands of New Zealand and India have left Pakistan in a desperate situation, where their fate in the ongoing prestigious tournament is no longer in their own hands.
With their ICC Champions Trophy qualification hopes hanging by a thread, all eyes are now on other teams’ results in Group A to determine the Men in Green’s future in the ongoing marquee tournament.
Amid this crisis, Mohammad Hafeez has stunned one and all with an explosive and shocking statement regarding the team selection for the ICC event.
Mohammad Hafeez claims AI picked Pakistan’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Mohammad Hafeez, former Director of the Pakistan National Cricket Team, claimed that the national selectors used artificial intelligence to select the Champions Trophy squad. The former Pakistani skipper also expressed his disbelief over the squad and said that the selection process was just beyond his logic.
Speaking on a local TV show, Mohammad Hafeez stated: “This selection is done with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). They say that they have a statistician; they know how to make teams. We know everything. They pick the players with AI. First, go and search your name on AI.”

Mohammad Hafeez calls opener choice a ‘Toss-Up’
The former all-rounder even went as far as to say that selecting the right opening partner for Imam-ul-Haq was like a random toss-up rather than a well-thought-out decision. After Fakhar Zaman was ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to an injury, the Men in Green recalled Imam-ul-Haq.
However, Babar Azam retained his place as the opener in the lineup, and Hafeez was critical of this move, saying the hosts failed to pick the right opening partner for Imam-ul-Haq.
The former team director added that Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Salman Ali Agha should have batted from 3 to 5 in the batting line-up in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025.
Hafeez signed off by saying, “It is a toss [Imam’s partner]. My mind cannot reach the levels where the team selection is done. I thought about it a lot, but they will have to do a toss for picking the Imam’s partner.”
