2016 Megahertz Stakes Race Favorites

Stormy Lucy – was at her best at the beginning of 2014 when she won the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes in March and the Grade 3 Santa Barbara Handicap but has been up and down since. She enters in very good form however – a second a neck behind Gender Agenda in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel Stakes here December 27 followed a great win over Gender Agenda among others at 65-1 odds in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar November 29. Before that were a fifth in the Grade 2 Goldikova, a third in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive in September, an eight in the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes in August and a third in the Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes in June. Stormy Lucy now has eight wins, three seconds and five third place finishes in 32 career starts. She has just one win in eight tries at this distance but hopes to build off two good results in graded stakes action – from post 9 with Kent Desormeaux scheduled to ride.

Gender Agenda – British bred Carla Gaines trained filly has been OK in her career – five wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 18 career starts. Last time out was a terrific breakthrough win in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel Stakes here December 27 which followed an OK fifth in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar November 29, a decent third in the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes November 1, a fourth in the minor Swingtime Stakes October 3 and two straight Allowance Optional Claiming scores. She has placed in four of her last six starts overall and hopes to build on a career best effort last time out at a distance she’s recorded three wins, a second and a third place finish in eight starts. Tyler Baze gets the call from gate 8.

Glory – Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly has three wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in nine career starts. She enters off a respectable third as favorite behind Gender Agenda and Stormy Lucy in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel Stakes on this track December 27 , a two race win streak – both Allowance Optional Claiming races in impressive fashion, a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming in September, a sixth in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks in April and an OK third in the Grade 3 Santa Ysabel Stakes in February. Glory has been OK so far but looks for her first stakes win Monday. Mike Smith has the mount from gate 2.

Theatre Star – Tom Proctor trained mare has placed in 11 of 17 career starts five wins, three seconds and three third place finishes. Chaulk O Lattey – consistent Richard Baltas trained mare has placed in eight of 10 career starts – four wins, two seconds and two third place finishes. Rafael Bejarano gets the mount from gate 10.

Circling – Irish bred Neil Drysdale trained mare had a win, a second and two third place finishes in seven starts at home before debuting in North America with a third place finish in an Allowance Optional Claiming here in March. She now has two wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 15 career starts and enters off her career best effort. Tiago Josue Pereira has been tabbed with building off that effort from the rail.

She failed to place in two of her first three North American starts but has looked OK in her next two – respectable third in the minor Kathryn Crosby Stakes at Del Mar November 7 followed an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Santa Anita October 9. Last time out was a huge step back – an eleventh in the Grade 3 Red Carpet Stakes at Del Mar November 21. Beat of The Drum has been up and down the last four months and hopes for a breakthrough performance Monday – from post 3 with Flavien Prat in the saddle.

Last time out was a distant sixth in her stakes debut – the minor Kathryn Crosby Stakes at Del Mar November 7 after an Allowance Optional Claiming score here in October and a third in a similar race in August. She has been just OK in her career but could be in over her head in this one. Geena Lattanzio rides from post 5.
