NEW DELHI: Lucknow Super Giants will bank on the rising star Mayank Yadav‘s stellar performances as they target a third consecutive victory in the Indian Premier League when they face an inconsistent Gujarat Titans on Sunday.
The 21-year-old pace sensation, Mayank Yadav, has been the talk of the town in the ongoing IPL, showcasing blistering pace and exceptional control to clinch back-to-back Player of the Match awards.
Yadav’s impactful debut against Punjab Kings, where he claimed 3/27, left England’s Jonny Bairstow stunned with his sheer speed. He continued his dominance in the next game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, bagging figures of 3/14 and dismissing the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green with ease.
While Yadav’s remarkable performances have sparked debates about his potential inclusion in the Indian team, the national selectors are expected to closely monitor his consistency over the course of the tournament.
LSG boasts a formidable opening pair in Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul, with the former in prime form after a slow start to the season. However, captainRahul will be keen to convert his starts into big scores.
Nicholas Pooran has been their go-to man in the death overs, while Krunal Pandya’s contributions have also been valuable.
Concerns linger over the form of Devdutt Padikkal and Marcus Stoinis in the batting department, while Yadav needs support from the bowling unit comprising Naveen-ul-Haq, Yash Thakur, Mohsin Khan, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi.
Currently placed fourth in the points table with two wins in three games, LSG aim to maintain their unbeaten home record and secure a third consecutive victory.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, have had a mixed campaign so far, winning two and losing two games.
Gill’s return to form with an unbeaten 89 in the previous game will boost their batting unit. B Sai Sudharsan has shown promise but will seek a substantial score, while Wriddhiman Saha and Vijay Shankar need to step up.
Mohit Sharma has been the standout performer for GT in the bowling department, but he requires support from Azmatullah Omarzai, Umesh Yadav, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmad to pose a challenge to LSG’s strong batting lineup.
