NEW DELHI: Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has given feedback on the performance of South Africa’s T20I captain, Aiden Markram. Gibbs suggested that Markram should not be in the playing eleven for the remaining two T20 international matches against India.
Markram began his T20 international career with some good performances. However, his performance has declined in 2023. Markram has not scored a single half-century this year in T20 Internationals.
In the 16 T20I matches he has played, Markram has scored 212 runs at an average of 15.14. His strike rate is 116.48, and his highest score is 46.
India and South Africa will play the third match of their four-match T20I series on Wednesday in Centurion, South Africa. The series is currently tied at one win each.
India won the first match by 61 runs. South Africa won the second match by three wickets.
Gibbs posted his opinion about the series on X, formerly known as Twitter. He believes both teams have a chance to win the series.
“I think India will feel they should be 2 up in the current T20 series v Proteas but the last 2 games should be high-scoring affairs. Anybody’s series at this stage,” posted Gibbs.
One X user asked Gibbs for his opinion about the batsmen South Africa should select for the final two matches. Gibbs offered a blunt assessment of Markram’s recent play.
“For starters, Markram can carry drinks.”
Markram has scored only 11 runs in the two matches against India. His highest score is eight runs.
Markram has not had a good year in all forms of international cricket. He has scored 583 runs in 24 matches and 28 innings. His average is 23.32. He has scored one century and two half-centuries. His highest score of the year is 106.
