Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene has provided a massive fitness update on Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He revealed that the pacer is still at the NCA and they are hopeful that he will join the team soon.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is around the corner and Mumbai Indians are mulling over the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah has been out of the action since January after he faced a back injury during the last game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Jasprit Bumrah experienced pain in his back and then was advised to rest. He bowled just 10 overs in the Sydney Test and, after that, was ruled out of the cricketing action for a few months. He was ruled out of the England ODIs as well as the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
It was expected that Jasprit Bumrah would be fit for the IPL 2025 but that wasn’t the case. There were a few reports that claimed that the pacer would miss the first few games of the league and would be back in action in the latter half of the league.
With IPL 2025 around the corner, Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene provided a fitness update about Jasprit Bumrah. He stressed that the pacer is recovering well, and they are waiting for feedback from the medical team at the NCA.
Mahela Jayawardene admitted that Jasprit Bumrah’s absence in the first few games will be a big challenge for the team and added that they need to find an element early in the season. Speaking to reporters ahead of the start of IPL 2025, he said:
“Jasprit Bumrah is with the NCA (National Cricket Academy). He just started the progress. We will wait for feedback. Everything is going well so far. It is a day-to-day process. We hope he can join the team at the earliest.
Not having him is a challenge, he is one of the best bowlers in the world. We will have to find ways and it is about opportunities for someone else. We need to find an element early in the season and see what works,” said Jayawardene.
