Ahead of the IPL 2025 season, Delhi Capitals (DC) wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul had predicted that fans could expect to witness Super Overs during the T20 tournament. The middle-order batter’s prediction came true during the IPL 2025 match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday.
Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals by the barest margin in the 32nd match of IPL 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, April 16. Despite the Sanju Samson-led team being in a winning position, Mitchell Starc’s outstanding bowling in the death overs and the Super Over helped DC secure victory.
Delhi Capitals Edge Past Rajasthan Royals in Thrilling Super Over Finish
After being asked to bat first, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson, Delhi Capitals posted a competitive total of 188/5 in 20 overs. Abishek Porel (49), KL Rahul (38), Tristan Stubbs (34*), and Axar Patel (34) chipped in with contributions. Jofra Archer, who took 2/32, was the pick of the bowlers for RR.

In response, Rajasthan lost momentum after captain Samson walked off due to injury. Yashasvi Jaiswal (51) and Nitish Rana (51) kept them on track to chase the target. Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel struggled to score. Mitchell Starc’s brilliant death bowling turned the tide, taking the game to the Super Over.
The Royals managed to score just 11 runs off the Super Over against Starc. DC comfortably chased it down in just four balls. KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 7 runs off three balls, while Tristan Stubbs finished the match with a six.
I Predict This Year There Will Be – KL Rahul’s Super Over Remark Comes True
After the match, KL Rahul’s video went viral on social media. Before the season began, Rahul had stated that there would be Super Overs in the tournament, which had not been seen in the previous year.
“I think this IPL, you will see Super Overs. Last year, I don’t think there were any. So I predict this year there will be,” Rahul said.

Delhi Capitals secured their fourth Super Over win in the IPL. It was their fifth Super Over appearance, the most by any team in the tournament.
KL Rahul joined Delhi Capitals during the IPL 2025 mega auction. He has scored 238 runs in five matches at an impressive average of 59.50, including two crucial half-centuries. He guided the team to wins against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) earlier in the month.
When Was the Last Super Over in IPL Before DC vs RR in 2025?
This match also marked the first Super Over in the IPL since 2021. The Capitals secured the victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the match.
In that game, SRH posted a total of 159/7, with Kane Williamson contributing 66 runs off 51 balls. Axar Patel bowled the Super Over, restricting SRH to just seven runs, despite a boundary from Williamson. Rishabh Pant hit a boundary, and three leg-byes helped the Delhi-based team clinch a narrow win.
