Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Jonny Bairstow was at the receiving end of an unlucky dismissal during the game against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The second game of the league is taking place at the newly built Stadium in Chandigarh.
Chasing the target of 175 runs, Jonny Bairstow looked in great touch and hit two boundaries in the first three balls and looked all set for a big knock. However, he had to walk back to the pavilion because he got dismissed in the unluckiest manner in the game.
During the 5th ball of the 4th over, Ishant Sharma bowled a delivery to which Prabhsimran Singh came down the track and punched the drive. The pacer bent low and got a fingertip on it. Jonny Bairstow was backing up too far and couldn’t get back as the ball hit the stumps.

Jonny Bairstow was dejected with the way he got out. The England batter scored 9 runs off just three balls that he played. His wicket put Punjab Kings under pressure as they lost two wickets within a span of just 5 balls.
Earlier in the over, Punjab Kings lost skipper Shikhar Dhawan. Ishant Sharma bowled a length delivery to which the batter tried to come down the track and play sweep. He missed the ball completely and the pacer hit the bullseye to send the opposition captain packing for 22 runs off 16 balls.
After losing both the openers, Prabhsimran Singh and Sam Curran played some aggressive shots. The keeper-batter couldn’t carry on the start that he got and perished after scoring 26 runs off 17 balls. He batted with a strike rate of over 152 and hit 5 fours in his innings.
After Prabhsimran Singh was back in the hut, Punjab Kings lost Jitesh Sharma as well. Kuldeep Yadav removed both the batters and put his team on the top. With the wickets of both batters, the hosts were left tottering at 100/4 while chasing 175 runs.
The onus will now be on Sam Curran and Jitesh Sharma to take the team home. The England batting duo has looked comfortable at the crease and is keeping the team in the hunt. With the way they are batting, it’s fair to say that if they stay till the end, they can take the team home.
Jonny Bairstow to play a vital role for Punjab Kings in the rest of the IPL 2024
Although Jonny Bairstow got out early in the ongoing game against Delhi Capitals, he will be a massive player for the team in the ongoing IPL 2024. He has been one of the best England batters to have played in the league. His experience will be vital for the team in the entire tournament.
Jonny Bairstow missed the last season of the IPL for Punjab Kings due to injury. His absence was quite evident as the team struggled to get going at the top order. They tried several options but didn’t seem to work. However, this time around, they will be confident. The duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow will be one of the most lethal opening pairs in the IPL.
