Jasprit Bumrah reaches Bengaluru for scans, final call to be made on CT participation

Ahead of India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against England and ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a major update came on Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently running against time to get clearance, especially for the upcoming eight-nation tournament.

Actually, Jasprit Bumrah reportedly landed in Bengaluru on Sunday evening, February 2, for further medical evaluation under the supervision of the BCCI’s expert team. A Times of India report claimed that India’s pace sensation will undergo scans and further assessment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

It is being said that Bumrah will remain at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for at least two to three days, with the medical team expected to submit a detailed report to the national selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar this week.

Bumrah was named in India’s squad for the last ODI against England and the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 last month, but his participation will depend on the results of scans and medical evaluation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) this week.

However, the Indian selectors will still have over a week to make a decision on Jasprit Bumrah, as they have to finalize their 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 and submit it to the International Cricket Council (ICC) by February 13.

Harshit Rana or Mohammed Siraj will get the nod if Jasprit Bumrah fails to get clearance for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

If Bumrah fails to get medical clearance, Harshit Rana, who is already part of the ODI squad for the upcoming home series against England, can be named as the premier pacer’s replacement. However, some reports claimed that Mohammed Siraj’s ticket to Dubai is almost final if Bumrah declares unfit.

On the other hand, the Men in Blue, led by Rohit Sharma, have already begun preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 with a short camp in Nagpur before the three-match ODI series against England. The first ODI will be played in Nagpur on February 6, followed by the second and final ODIs in Cuttack and Ahmedabad on February 9 and 12, respectively.

Notably, Bumrah, who was recently awarded the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year, was also honored with the Polly Umrigar Award for Best Male International Cricketer in 2024 at the annual Naman Awards 2024 in Mumbai on February 1.

The year 2024 was a dream year for Bumrah, as the speedster finished as the highest wicket-taker in Tests with 71 wickets in just 13 matches. The Indian pacer also scalped 35 wickets in 21 T20Is last year, including 15 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2024, to win the Player of the Tournament award.
