Jason Gillespie attacks Cricket Australia for neglecting Pakistan series, prioritizing BGT 2024-25

Pakistan’s interim white-ball head coach Jason Gillespie has taken a dig at Cricket Australia for not promoting the three-match ODI series against Pakistan as opposed to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, for which the promotions are in full flow.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will be played just after the T20I series against Pakistan. It is quite clear that the Test series against India will bring a lot more revenue which is why Cricket Australia is promoting the series as much as they can.

A large portion of the Indian crowd is likely to be available for the Tests in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and it involves some of the costliest TV rights as well. As a result, the highly anticipated series is getting way more promotion than the ODIs in Pakistan.

Jason Gillespie slams Cricket Australia for prioritizing India over Pakistan

While speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald, Jason Gillespie spoke about Pakistan’s historic ODI series victory in Australia. The former Australian quick expressed his surprise at the non-promotion of the ODI series against Pakistan but admitted that the Test series against India is being prioritized.

“To be honest, I pretty much saw no promotion of our one-day series by Cricket Australia, which was a bit of a surprise. It’s pretty obvious that they’re prioritizing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against India because I saw no promotion of this series,” Gillespie said.

Jason Gillespie lauded the broadcaster Fox Cricket for their great promotions but took a dig at Cricket Australia for prioritizing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy over the white-ball series with Pakistan.

“Fox do a great job promoting but it was pretty clear to us where CA’s priorities lie. That’s their prerogative and their decision but I just didn’t see any advertising, and promotion of this one-day series at all,” he added.

Jason Gillespie’s dig at Australian batters

Jason Gillespie further took a dig at Australia’s batting line-up and claimed that the Pakistan bowlers exposed their batting line-up totally. He also expressed his pleasure in defeating Australia in a convincing fashion.

“What we saw in this series is our bowling exposed some flaws in the Australian batting. I’m sure the Australians will look to right some wrongs and improve some things,” Gillespie reckoned.

“That’s what good players and good teams do, you learn and adjust and adapt and be ready for the next challenge. It was pleasing not just to beat Australia but beat them pretty convincingly,” he added.

Pakistan’s bowlers were all over Australian batters in the series. While the tourists did not play any specialist spinner throughout the course of the series, their fast bowlers were on song.

Haris Rauf shines in ODI series

Haris Rauf emerged as the highest wicket-taker of the series with 10 wickets from just three matches. Rauf was also adjudged the Player of the Series for his performance. Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah gave him good company.

Both Afridi and Naseem claimed three wickets each in the decider and helped Pakistan win the series 2-1. Despite losing the first match, Pakistan bounced back strongly to win the next two matches in the series.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will begin on November 22 in Perth. The five-match Test series holds the utmost importance for both Australia and India as it paves the way for them to reach the WTC final.
