Mohun Bagan Super Giant will be looking to accumulate more points and cement its place atop the table when it hosts Punjab FC in an ISL fixture at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Wednesday.
Having won their last eight outings at home, Bagan will be eager to continue the trend against an opponent that debuted just a season ago.
Clean sheets
Bagan also kept six clean sheets during this period giving them the opportunity to equal the longest stretch of home victories, which currently belongs to FC Goa (recorded between December 2019 and November 2022).
Bagan are tipped as the favourites despite the fact that they will be missing some key players owing to either suspension or injury.
With 43 points from 19 matches, Bagan are enjoying a nine-point lead at the top over their nearest challengers in Jamshedpur FC, which is on 34 points but has a game in hand.
With five more rounds to go, Bagan will be looking to secure the necessary points to retain the League Shield.
Having beaten Punjab 3-1 in the first leg, it will be an additional motivation for Bagan to complete a league double.
