Ishant Sharma to miss rest of IPL 2024? Pacer leaves field after suffering ankle injury

Ishant Sharma was forced to walk off the field after suffering an injury during the game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur.

The right-arm pacer did not start the game on the best of notes as he conceded eight runs in his very first over. However, he bounced back in style in his second over. On the very first ball of the over, he dismissed the dangerous Shikhar Dhawan to give DC a much-needed early breakthrough.

In the same over, he showed remarkable athleticism to run out Jonny Bairstow. After Prabhsimran Singh played a straight drive, he came down quickly and ensured that the ball touched his fingers before going on to crash into the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Replays showed that Bairstow was short of the crease when the ball hit the stumps and had no option but to depart.

Ishant Sharma gets injured:

Before Ishant Sharma could make more impact on the game, he suffered an injury and had to walk off the field. In the sixth over of the innings, he ended up twisting his ankle while fielding at deep mid-wicket. He fell down immediately and looked in pain before the physio came running out. After a while, Ishant Sharma had to leave the field. In another big concern for DC, he could not even walk unaided and needed support to walk.

Talking about the game, DC posted a competitive total of 174 for 9 in the allotted 20 overs after PBKS won the toss and opted to bowl first. DC were reeling at 138 for 7 at one stage before Abhishek Porel’s fine cameo helped them post a 170-plus total. He hit Harshal Patel for three fours and two sixes in the final over of the innings and remained unbeaten on 33 off 10 balls.
