Cricket Ireland has taken a massive step ahead of their summer. The Ireland National Cricket Team won’t be playing the one-off Test against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team due to financial reasons, but the rest of the schedule will go ahead as planned.
Irish Team was all set to host Afghanistan National Cricket Team in one Test along with three ODIs and three T20s, according to the Men’s Future Tours Programme. While they have cancelled the Tests, they will be playing white-ball games as per schedule.
This decision is part of our management of short-term budgetary constraints, as well as our requirement – CI chief executive Warren Deutrom on cancelled Tests against Afghanistan
The Irish team has a packed schedule coming their way. They will be locking horns with the ODI and T20I series against West Indies in May and June, respectively. They are also slated to host the first home T20I series against England in September.
Warren Deutrom, chief executive of the Irish Board, talked about the cancelled scheduled Test against Afghanistan, saying that the decision is part of their management of short-term budgetary constraints. He, however, added that fans will be able to witness some of the best cricketers playing. Speaking in a statement, he elaborated:
“One planned series that won’t go ahead for financial reasons is against Afghanistan. This decision is part of our management of short-term budgetary constraints, as well as our requirement to comply with the Board’s mandate to deliver balanced investment across the organisation’s strategic objectives. Ireland fans would, however, be able to enjoy some of the world’s best cricketers playing on these shores”.
