In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in Dainik Jagran, it is learned that Shardul Thakur is in line to be named in the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) squad for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The tournament is all set to kick start on Saturday (22nd March).
Since the last week, India pacer Shardul Thakur has been spotted in the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) camp.
Shardul Thakur unsold at auction
The star pacer has been training with the team continuously and has been putting in hard yards. This has raised many speculations about his availability for the team in the season.
Thakur was one of the players who went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. The fast bowler played for Chennai Super Kings in the last edition, and it was expected that he would fetch some bucks this season as well. But that wasn’t the case, as he failed to attract any bidders, and it shocked many.
But with Lucknow Super Giants having quite a few injury concerns, Shardul Thakur will now have a realistic chance to play in the IPL 2025. A franchise official categorically mentioned that the management won’t be making mistakes they made last season.
He said that if any player won’t be available for the entire IPL 2025, then they will be announcing the replacement ahead of the season. The source mentioned that they are in contact with some Indian fast bowlers and once they have clarity on injuries, they will be making official announcements. Speaking to Dainik Jagran, he said:
“In the last three seasons, we sought replacements for injured players later, but this time we don’t want to repeat that mistake. Before the camp begins, we want to ensure that if a player cannot play the entire season, we have their replacement ready.
“We are currently in contact with some Indian fast bowlers who went unsold in the mega auction. They are also participating in our practice sessions. Soon, once clarity on injured players emerges, we can make official announcements.”

The official also talked about Shardul Thakur, revealing that he will be added to the team if any fast bowler gets injured. He elaborated:
“Shardul Thakur has been part of our camp for a week now. If any fast bowler gets injured, we will include him under IPL rules.”
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are mulling over the fitness of three pacers ahead of the IPL 2025. Three frontline pacers in Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan are yet to get clearance from the NCA. The trio are yet to join the side and it is expected that one among them might get ruled out.
If given the opportunity, Shardul Thakur will be a key for Lucknow Super Giants with the ball as well as the bat. The pacer has taken 94 wickets at an average of 30.52. Batting down the order, he has slammed 307 runs in 37 innings at a staggering strike rate of 138.91.
