Punjab Kings’ IPL trophy hunt continues since 2008
Speaking about the PBKS’s journey, the Mohali-based franchise failed to deliver over the years despite having many superstars across the season from all over the world. The Punjab Kings had only a semifinal appearance in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League.
The IPL 2014 was their best season, but yet again they failed to lift the trophy, losing the final to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) under Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy.
Punjab narrowly missed the title in 2014, but the rest of the history was just a disappointment, crashing out of the IPL in the league stages.

PBKS hopes Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting bring the title home
However, there are fresh hopes in the PBKS camp that the legendary Australian cricketer Ponting and the IPL 2024-winning captain with KKR, Iyer, would end their long-standing wait of lifting the title. This time, they have a strong squad featuring young and experienced players to take them to glory.
Punjab Kings will open their campaign against the Gujarat Titans on March 25 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Notably, the PBKS team began its pre-season training at the HPCA Stadium on March 12. However, Iyer, who recently won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with Team India, has decided to join the squad later in Mullanpur.
The Dharamshala camp will end on March 15, and it is being said that Yuzvendra Chahal was among the stars taking part in the preparatory camp under the supervision of the new coach, Ponting.
