Instilled Regard , who claimed his only grade 1 victory in his final start, sired his first winner May 26 when his daughter La Marinera won a maiden special weight at Churchill Downs.
It was the third career start for the 2-year-old filly. She previously finished second in her other two starts.
In her five-furlong race Sunday, La Marinera led most of the way, opened a five-length advantage down the stretch, and held on for a 1 1/4-length win on a sloppy track. The clock was stopped in :59.97.
Owned by John Acevedo and bred by Shadowbrook Farm, the filly twice entered the sales ring, most recently selling for $1,000 out of the Legacy Bloodstock consignment to Eladio Acevedo at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
La Marinera is trained by Kelly Fernandez and has earned $74,120 from three starts (1-2-0).
