Srihari wins silver in Mare Nostrum swimming

Ace India swimmer Srihari Nataraj clinched a silver medal in the 50m backstroke event at the 30th Mare Nostrum swimming tour at the Canet-en-Roussillon, France.

Nataraj, who competed a the Tokyo Olympics, clocked 25.50s to claim the second spot on the podium behind Hungary’s Adam Jaszo, who touched the pad at 25.46s while Scott Gibson of Great Britain finished third with a timing of 25.64s on Saturday.

Nataraj’s personal best in the event is 25.11s.

The 50m backstroke is a non-Olympic event. No Indian swimmer has made the cut for the Paris Games till now.

Sajan Prakash and Nataraj had made history in 2021 when they became the first two Indian swimmers to achieve the ‘A’ qualification mark for the Tokyo Olympics.

The Mare Nostrum Tour, which began on Saturday, is a nine-day competition conducted across three cities – Monaco, Barcelona and Canet.

Tavish Pahwa, Parthasarathi Mundhe wins National sub-junior tennis championship title

Tavish Pahwa outplayed top seed Prateek Sheoran 6-4, 6-0 in the final of the Ramesh Desai memorial National sub-junior tennis championship at the KDLTA Complex on Sunday.

Coached by Todd Clark, it was a commendable effort by Tavish to win a double crown in the under-16 event, as he had earlier won the doubles title with Hruthik Katakam. Quite remarkably, Tavish had won a double crown in the National under-12 and under-14 championships over the last two years.

The girls title was bagged by Parthsarthi Mundhe as she raced past Ranjhana Sangram for the loss of four games. It was a double crown for her also, as she had won the doubles title with Akansha Ghosh.

Aryan Shah and Adhithya Ganesanv doubles pair win $15,000 ITF men’s tennis tournament

Aryan Shah in partnership with Adhithya Ganesan of USA beat Max Benaim and Daniel Vishnick of Britain 6-1, 6-4 in the doubles final of the $15,000 ITF men’s tennis tournament in Kingston, Jamaica, on Saturday.

It was a maiden title in the professional circuit for the 18-year-old Aryan who had made the singles and doubles final last week in the same place.

Meanwhile, the commendable run of National champion Siddharth Vishwakarma was stopped in the final of the $25,000 event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as he was beaten 6-2, 6-2 by Philip Henning of South Africa.

$25,000 ITF men, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Singles (final): Philip Henning (RSA) bt Siddharth Vishwakarma 6-2, 6-2.

Ravindu Laksiri, Rathika Suthanthira Seelan win PSA Challenger title

Top seeds Ravindu Laksiri of Srilanka and Rathika Suthanthira Seelan won the men’s and women’s titles in the HCL $6,000 PSA Challenger squash tournament at the Daly College on Sunday.

Both won their matches in straight games against Om Semwal and Pooja Arthi respectively.

Ravindu Laksiri (Sri) bt Om Semwal 11-6, 11-6, 11-4.

Women:

Rathika Suthanthira Seelan bt Pooja Arthi 11-4, 11-6, 11-3.

Aryaveer Dewan pipped Shiven Agarwal in the Indian Open junior squash tournament

Aryaveer Dewan pipped Shiven Agarwal 11-6, 6-11, 11-9, 10-12, 15-13 in the under-16 boys semifinals of the HCL Indian Open junior squash tournament at the Daly College on Sunday.

In the final, Aryaveer will play Subhash Choudhary.

In an equally engrossing match, Anika Dubey fought her way past Kaashvi Mangal 11-4, 11-5, 9-11, 9-11, 15-13 to set up the under-15 girls final against Riyansika Verma.
