Vaishnavi Adkar wins a doubles crown

Vaishnavi Adkar outplayed Elena Jamshidi of Japan 6-2, 6-1 in the final of the $15,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at the Ace Academy in Palodiya on Saturday.

It was a maiden title in the professional circuit for the 20-year-old Vaishnavi, who did not drop a set along the way.

She made it doubly special by winning the doubles title later in partnership with Pooja Ingale. The Indian pair saved three match points in the super tie-break at 6-9 to beat the Japanese Honoka Kobayashi and Anri Nagata 6-3, 2-6, [12-10].

The results (finals):

Singles: Vaishnavi Adkar bt Elena Jamshidi (Den) 6-2, 6-1.

Doubles: Vaishnavi Adkar & Pooja Ingale bt Honoka Kobayashi & Anri Nagata (Jpn) 6-3, 2-6, [12-10].

UP Chief Minister extends support for Kho Kho World Cup

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has assured all possible help, including financial support, for the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup to be staged in Delhi and Noida from January 13.

The Chairman of the organising committee, Sudhanshu Mittal, invited the UP Chief Minister for the inauguration of the championship.

The Kho Kho Federation of India would explore the possibility of introducing the game in schools and colleges across the State.
