World Championships: Manika reaches third round
India’s top woman paddler, Manika Batra scripted a 11-9, 14-12, 11-4, 11-8 win against Wong Xin Ru of Singapore in the second round of the World table tennis championships in Durban on Tuesday. Manika will next take on Georgina Pota of Hungary.
India’s top-ranked men’s paddler, G. Sathiyan went down to World No. 9 Dang Qiu of Germany 11-6, 11-6, 11-5, 11-7 in the second round.

India wins three gold medals at Speedo Long Course Meet
India finished with three gold and three bronze medals at the two-day Speedo Long Course meet held at Hamdan, Dubai on May 20-21.
Astha Choudhary picked gold in both 100m and 200m Butterfly events. She finished overall runner-up in Girls 16 and above category in 50m Butterfly.
Shivangi Sarma won gold in the 50m Freestyle and bronze in the 100m Freestyle event.
Mahi Swetraj clinched bronze in the 50m and 100m Freestyle events.

French Open: Ankita Raina reaches second round of qualifying
Ankita Raina progressed to the second round of qualifying at the French Open on Tuesday.
The Indian beat local wildcard Emeline Dartron 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 in two hours and 48 minutes.
Raina will next face Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima.

National sub-junior championship: Arnav Paparkar reaches third round
Qualifier Arnav Paparkar knocked out third-seeded Arjun Rathi 6-4, 6-2 in the boys’ second round of the Ramesh Desai Memorial National sub-junior tennis tournament at the KDLTA Complex on Tuesday.

Yuki-Saketh pair reaches quarterfinals in Lyon
Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni beat Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah 7-6(4), 3-6, [10-8] in the doubles pre-quarterfinals of the ATP 250 tennis tournament in Lyon, France.
The Indian pair will play third seeds Nicolas Mahut and Matwe Middelkoop in the quarterfinals.
In the $15,000 ITF men’s tennis event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Dev Javia beat third seed Kris Van Wyk of South Africa 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.

KHELO INDIA UNIVERSITY GAMES
While the third edition of the Khelo India University Games will officially kick off from Thursday, competitive action began on Tuesday with kabaddi games at the SVSP Sports Complex, Gautam Buddha Nagar.
Four matches were played – two each in men and women — with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya University, Bilaspur losing 28-41 to Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, Jind in the women’s opening game. The other women’s games saw HP University, Shimla beat HCY University, Durg 51–29.
Among the men, Adamas University, Kolkata suffered injuries to two players early on before losing 29-35 to Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo while Kota University won 28-23 against SRM University, Chennai.
The KIUG is expected to see more than 4000 athletes representing over 200 universities in 21 disciplines.
