NEW DELHI: During the first Test match between India and New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, senior batsman Virat Kohli passed former captain MS Dhoni to become the second-most-capped international cricketer for India across all formats.
Kohli took the field in Bengaluru on Thursday, marking his 536th appearance for India. In contrast, Dhoni had 535 appearances for India in international tournaments between 2004 and 2019.
Kohli now trails only the great Sachin Tendulkar, who holds the record for the most caps of any international cricket player in history with 664 while playing for India between 1989 and 2013.

India captain Rohit Sharma (486 caps) and Ravindra Jadeja (346 caps) round up the list of current cricketers after Kohli.
However, Kohli was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the first Test.
Interestingly, Kohli’s last duck in Test cricket was also against New Zealand in their last tour in 2021-22 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai (32 innings before).
