Rain lashed the city of Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday morning ahead of India vs Netherlands warm-up fixture, for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023

Ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, there’s a massive threat that the Indian cricket team might not get to play a single warm-up fixture as rain threatens to wash out the tie between India and Netherlands at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

Earlier, the previous warm-up fixture between India and England slated to be held at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati was also washed out. India had won the toss and captain Rohit Sharma decided to bat first, but not even a single ball could be bowled due to rain playing spoilsport.

Similar scenes could unfold on Tuesday, October 3 as the weather in Thiruvananthapuram took a turn for the worse. The city was lashed down by rain in the early morning hours, and unless the weather improves drastically, it would be difficult for both sides to play a full game of fifty overs.

Few social media users took to X and shared updates about the rain pouring down in the city. According to weather.com, there were predictions of Thunderstorms throughout the day, meaning there’s a very real chance of rain playing spoilsport yet again.

If the match between India and Netherlands gets washed out, then the Indian team will go into their first World Cup game against Australia on October 8 without having played their first choice playing XI in any of the games leading up to the fifty-over spectacle.

While the likes of Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli were rested for the first two ODIs of the recently concluded series over Australia, the star duo returned for the final fixture in Rajkot but Hardik Pandya remained absent.

During the warm-up matches of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, three fixtures had to be abandoned because of weather while two matches were decided on DLS as rain continued to play spoilsport in games leading up to the World Cup.
