Team India will begin their final preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 by taking on Bangladesh in their only warm-up game ahead of the main tournament. The game is taking place on Saturday (June 1) at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.
India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. While the game will not be of much importance for either of the teams apart from adding final touches to their preparations, the fans have started criticizing Virat Kohli for missing it.
The former India skipper was not a part of the group that traveled to the USA last month even though his IPL campaign had ended at the league stage as well. As per reports, he had requested the BCCI for a break and was given permission to link up with the team later. Apart from him, Hardik Pandya was also not a part of the group.
Both the players recently linked up with the team in New York. But while Pandya is a part of the team that will be taking on Bangladesh in the warm-up game, Virat Kohli is not. Captain Rohit Sharma confirmed the news at the toss, saying:
“We will bat. Not for any particular reason, conditions here look a bit challenging. Virat has just arrived yesterday, he’s going to miss out, the rest are all available and we’ll see how to use them. We arrived quite early, so the body clock has adjusted, we just have to see how well we can adjust to these conditions.”
Here are some of the reactions to Virat Kohli missing the game:
Kohli not playing today but it doesn’t matter as he will play 4 warm-up matches before super 8

You have a chance to trial run your batting order and Kohli is sitting out?
This isn’t like previous situations where he opted out of practice games.

Virat kohli not playing today’s warm up game against Bangladesh
Why does this Indian team never play with proper combination except in the World Cup matches?
The final 11 who play in the World Cup never play together for the entire year.
This is why we are not able to win theโฆ

A stunning campaign in the IPL for Virat Kohli:
While Virat Kohli is facing criticism for not playing in the warm-up game against Bangladesh, not many would be worried about his form thanks to his brilliant batting display in the recently-concluded IPL 2024.
After not playing any competitive game for almost two months in order to be with his wife and newborn son, the former India skipper hit the ground running in the IPL. He finished the competition as the highest run-scorer, scoring an impressive 741 runs in 14 games with the help of 1 century and five half-centuries. India will be hoping that their star man continues to bat in the same fashion in the T20 World Cup as well.
