Rohit Sharma is India’s captain and will have a big role to play while opening the innings. Being an excellent player of spin, he has been India’s best batter at home over the last few years and can take the game away from the opposition if he stays at the crease for a long time.
Rohit Sharma’s ability to play long marathon innings makes him such a dangerous player for an opposition team. Bangladesh will be wary of his strengths and will look to get him out early.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is always a threat to any opposition team. Virat Kohli wasn’t at his best in the last Test series against Bangladesh and scored just 45 runs in 2 Tests at an average of just 15. He will be aiming to make this a big series in terms of runs and make a statement.
Kohli has a big role to play in the upcoming Test series against New Zealand and Australia. The five-match Test series against Australia is especially important given Kohli’s superb record in Australia. Thus, he will look to start positively here.
India opt for a full-strength squad
India has selected a full-strength squad for this series with only Mohammed Shami being the noticeable name missing due to injury. Shami had an ankle surgery earlier this year and is believed to have started bowling in the nets.
However, he will play one or two Ranji Trophy matches for Bengal before being available for India. Shami is likely to make his comeback during the home Test series against New Zealand. He will be key to India’s chances in the Border-Gavaskar Test series in Australia.
Jasprit Bumrah will lead India’s attack in this series and he will play his first international match since the T20 World Cup 2024 in June. But the focus will be on India’s spinners, who are brilliant in home conditions.
The first match two-match Test series will be played at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, and will be played from September 19-23. Meanwhile, the second Test match will be played at Green Park, Kanpur from September 27 to October 1.
