He shared a 200-run stand with Shubman who also scored 104 runs and continued his sublime form with the bat. It was Gill’s 5th ODI century this year thus far.

Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad departed early for just 4. Josh Hazlewood was impressive in his line and length and that got him the wicket of Gaikwad, taking the outside edge off the right-hander’s bat to be caught behind by Alex Carey.

Gill and Iyer didn’t feel any pressure and counter-attacked the Australian bowlers right from the start.

Iyer, coming at number three, found his groove by taking two boundaries off a lofted cover drive and a wristy clip against Johnson. He followed it up with a drive on-the-up against Hazlewood, taking three boundaries in his first seven balls.

While Cameron Green got the scalp of Shubman who hit 6 fours and 4 sixes during his knock.

India continued to bat with aggressive intent as KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan attacked the Australian bowlers right from the start. Kishan played a short cameo knock of 31 runs, while Rahul went on to hit his second straight half-century. He scored 52 runs off 38 balls which was leased with three sixes and as many fours.

In the last 10 overs, it was an out-and-out Suryakumar Yadav show as he smashed the Aussies all around the park with his 360-degree shot-making. The flamboyant batter was his level best and remained unbeaten for 72 off 37 balls. He hits 6 sixes and as many fours.
