Imad Wasim comes out of retirement after meeting PCB officials, available for T20 World Cup | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Following a meeting with officials from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), all-rounder Imad Wasim made a significant decision on Saturday by reversing his retirement from international cricket.
Wasim had previously announced his retirement from the international cricket scene in November of the preceding year. However, after discussions with the PCB, he has now made himself available for selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup, signaling a return to the international arena.

“I am happy to announce that pursuant to meeting PCB officials, I have reconsidered my retirement and am delighted to declare my availability for Pakistan cricket in

T20I format leading up to ICC T20I World Cup 2024,” said Wasim in his X account.
“I would like to thank the PCB for reposing trust in me and I would give my very best to bring laurels to my country. Pakistan comes first!”

Expressing gratitude towards the PCB for their trust and support, Wasim has vowed to give his utmost to bring glory to the nation on the cricketing stage.
Speculations regarding Wasim’s return to international cricket had been circulating since the conclusion of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), especially after chief selector Wahab Riaz and national T20I captain Shaheen Shah Afridi reportedly urged him to reconsider his retirement decision.
The pressure for Wasim’s comeback intensified following his outstanding performances in the playoffs and final of the PSL, where he played pivotal roles in helping Islamabad United secure the championship.
With 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is under his belt, Wasim has showcased his prowess with the ball, accumulating 44 and 65 wickets respectively in these formats, leveraging his left-arm spin to great effect.
The selectors are now set to unveil a pool of players for a training camp scheduled to take place at an army base in Kakul, Northern Pakistan. This camp marks the beginning of preparations for the national side ahead of the T20 World Cup slated for June.
