India batter Rinku Singh recently faced disappointment as he was left out of Team India’s main squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies, despite high expectations from fans and pundits due to his impressive performance in the format.
Rinku and many were expecting that the aggressive batter would be picked in the 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 after his impressive performances in the IPL and India, but the selection committee made the surprising decision by picking him as a traveling reserve.
After winning the IPL 2024 with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rinku opened up about his feelings about missing out on the T20 World Cup 2024 selection and revealed the message he received from the Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma.
Whatever happens, happens for good: Rinku Singh on his T20 World Cup 2024 snub
The left-handed batter admitted that he was initially disappointed by the snub, but he accepted his fate while acknowledging that team dynamics played a role in the national selection committee’s decision. He stressed the importance of not dwelling on things beyond his control.
The 26-year-old further revealed that Rohit encouraged him to take the setback as a temporary obstacle and reminded him that opportunities lie ahead of him, including the prospect of representing the country in the next World Cup. Rohit asked Rinku to keep working hard.
Rinku Singh was quoted as saying by Dainik Jagran: “Yes, anyone feels a little bad if he is not selected despite good performance. However, this time I could not get selected due to the team combination. It is okay, one should not think too much about things that are not in one’s hands. Yes, I was a little upset in the beginning. Whatever happened is fine. Whatever happens, happens for good.”
Rinku Singh hails Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and reveals his message
On being asked about Rohit Sharma’s message after his T20 World Cup 2024 snub, Rinku said: “Rohit Bhaiya did not say anything special. He only said that just keep working hard. There is a World Cup again after two years. There is no need to worry too much. This is what he said to me.”
The IPL 2024 winner further lauded Rohit and his captaincy, saying he is very sportive to the youngsters in the Indian cricket team, and he always encourages them to keep working hard and do well.
Rinku signed off by saying, “The whole world has seen how good his captaincy is. If I talk about myself personally, I have done only one tour with him so far. I have not even talked to him much. He supports the youth a lot. He only wants the youth to do well and he always says that play, do well.”
Notably, Rinku failed to impress with the bat in the recently concluded IPL 2024, where he scored only 168 runs at a poor average of 18 and a strike rate of 148. But he would like to put these disappointments back when he heads to the USA and Caribbean with the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024, where they will kick off their campaign against Ireland on June 5 in New York.
