The 23-year-old India National Cricket Team right-arm pacer Harshit Rana achieved an unbelievable milestone in his debut ODI game.
Harshit Rana made his ODI debut on Thursday, February 6, at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur, against England and etched his name in history books.

Harshit Rana shines on debut
Rana broke into the Indian team on the back of his heroics in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is rated highly by the head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and the pacer has very quickly become an all-format player for India.
Rana made his India debut in a high-profile Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Test match in Perth last year. In the match, he bagged a three-wicket haul in the first innings and one wicket in the second innings.
Then, he made his T20I debut in recent series against England after replacing Shivam Dube as a concussion substitute in Mumbai. Harshit Rana delivered a brilliant performance in the match and bagged a three-wicket haul to steer India to an epic victory.
Then, in his ODI debut match, he started poorly as after bowling a few decent overs, he was demolished by Phil Salt. The English opener smashed Rana for 26 runs in an over, but that didn’t break the Indian pacer.
He bounced back and removed Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, and Liam Livingstone to push the English team on the back foot and finished with figures of 3/53 in 7 overs.
With his three-wicket haul on his ODI debut, Harshit Rana became the first-ever Indian to pick at least 3 wickets in the debut match of all formats.
Thank you, it is like a dream – Harshit Rana
Speaking to the broadcasters during the mid-innings break, pacer Harshit Rana said that the last few months have been like a dream for him. He said:
“Thank you, it is like a dream. I have worked really hard for this and now reaping the rewards. The motive was to bowl on a length, even though I got hit for runs but I didn’t change my length and got the rewards.”

The chat with Rohit bhai was that I should be bowling in line of the stumps – Harshit Rana
Harshit Rana further revealed a piece of advice from Rohit Sharma that helped him restrict English batters and pick three wickets in the match.
“They were looking for room, the chat with Rohit bhai was that I should be bowling in line of the stumps and not give them freebies,” he said.
When asked about the pitch, Harshit Rana stated that the surface was ‘double-paced’. He elaborated:
“It is a double-paced wicket, some balls are kicking on and some are going slow. I think we have restricted them and did well to bounce back after the start we got with the ball. I think it is a good total and we can chase it down easily.”
