“Hardik Pandya might be Mumbai captain but Rohit Sharma is”- Riteish Deshmukh and Saqib Saleem’s jaw-dropping verdict

The debate as to who is better between Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya is a never-ending debate. The two recently won the T20 World Cup together for India. The same debate was picked up again at Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube podcast.

Rohit Sharma then announced his retirement from T20I cricket along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. Hardik Pandya was primed to succeed him as the next T20I captain of India. However, everything changed with Gautam Gambhir came on board as the head coach of the Indian team.

He along with Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar came down to a unanimous decision and named Suryakumar Yadav as the next T20I captain of India. They also explained the reason behind choosing SKY over Hardik as the T20I captain of India. He will start his stint with the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.

As regards Hardik, he’s still a very important player for us. That’s what we want, him to be the player that can be. Those sorts of skills are very difficult to find, what he has. Fitness has been a challenge for him over the last few years and that then becomes a little bit more difficult for a coach or even us selectors” Agarkar said in a press conference in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Shubhankar Mishra recently invited Bollywood actors Riteish Deshmukh and Saqib Saleem and asked them about Rohit and Hardik. He asked who is “Mumbai Kaa Raja” between the two.

Riteish Deshmukh Chooses Between Hardik Pandya And Rohit Sharma

Riteish Deshmukh in his response said that Though Hardik Pandya is the captain of Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma will always be Mumbai kaa Raja. The response proved that he had a soft corner for Rohit Sharma.

Rohit after winning the IPL titles with Mumbai Indians has now created a legacy with the Indian team as well. He became the first captain to end India’s ICC title drought. He won an ICC title for India after 11 years and won the T20 World Cup after 17 years.

Under Rohit, India also reached the finals of the ICC World Cup 2023. They maintained an unbeaten run to the final and lost to India. In the T20 World Cup, they maintained an unbeaten run throughout the tournament and won the title.

With Rohit retired the opening spot has been left vacant. A few candidates are fighting for that spot. As of now, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be opening the batting, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma who performed in the last series against Zimbabwe have not been picked for this tour.

Gautam Gambhir is all set to start his coaching stint with this upcoming series against Sri Lanka. He has already had his first training session with the Indian team. Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri, the former Indian head coach has said that Gambhir will bring fresh ideas to the squad having played many of the players from the squad till very recently.

“He’s contemporary, he just had a great season in the IPL. I think he’s the right age when he’s young, he’ll come up with fresh ideas. He knows most of the players, especially in the white-ball format, having been part of teams in the IPL. So I think it’s refreshing,” Shastri said.
