Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra wasn’t happy with Rajasthan Royals choosing Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati as their second home in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He stressed that people in Jaipur will get to see their team play after three weeks.
Rajasthan Royals had a tough start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Riyan Parag-led side started the tournament with a poor loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. But, it was expected that they would make a comeback in the second game.
Rajasthan Royals faced loss against Kolkata Knight Riders in Guwahati
This was because they played at their second home at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. But it turned out to be worse for them as Rajasthan Royals faced another loss. The home venue didn’t favour them as it was Kolkata Knight Riders who emerged winners in the game.
The wicket in Guwahati offered spin, and Kolkata Knight Riders spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Moeen Ali used that perfectly. They troubled the Rajasthan Royals batters, who managed just 151 runs on the board and went on to lose the game by 8 wickets.
The pitch at Guwahati doesn’t look like the one that suits their strengths either – Aakash Chopra on Rajasthan Royals
Aakash Chopra talked about the second home venue of Rajasthan Royals, saying that although it’s good to take games to different pockets of the country, Jaipur fans won’t be seeing their team play anytime soon. He also stressed that pitch in Guwahati is not suiting their strengths either. Taking to his Twitter account, he said:
“While I understand the urge to spread the game and take it to different pockets of the country (and Guwahati has a lot of love for the game), it’s difficult to wrap your head around the fact that the people living in Rajasthan will get to see their team play at Jaipur first time on the 13th of April.
“Three weeks after the tournament starts. Also, the pitch at Guwahati doesn’t look like the one that suits their strengths either. They need belters and let batters win games.”

The track is closest to the one that KKR is asking for at the Eden Gardens – Aakash Chopra on Guwahati pitch
Aakash Chopra added that the Guwahati pitch is not closer to what Rajasthan Royals will be get in Jaipur. He stressed that the surface is closest to what Kolkata Knight Riders want at Eden Gardens. He added:
“Guwahati is not just closer to Kolkata than it is to Rajasthan…but also, the track is closest to the one that KKR is asking for at the Eden Gardens.”
