Grade 1 Winner Timberlake to Target Jerkens

While WinStar Farm and Siena Farm picked up a candidate for the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes (G1) when World Record  won the July 26 Amsterdam Stakes (G2) at Saratoga Race Course, the same connections could have a second entrant in the grade 1 sprint stakes for 3-year-olds.

Elliott Walden, CEO, president, and racing manager of WinStar Farm, said grade 1 winner Timberlake  will also be pointed to the seven-furlong test on the Aug. 24 Travers Stakes (G1) undercard at the Spa.

A son of Into Mischief   trained by Brad Cox, Timberlake finished third July 20 as the second choice in the 1 1/8-mile Haskell Stakes (G1) at Monmouth Park while making his first start in four months.

“He ran well in the Haskell, but we’ll cut him back to seven furlongs,” Walden said. “He was wanting the last two times at a mile and an eighth so we’ll wheel him back in the Jerkens.”

Winner of the Champagne Stakes (G1) at 2, Timberlake was fourth March 30 in the 1 1/8-mile Arkansas Derby (G1) as the 6-5 favorite.
