Australia National Cricket Team batter Glenn Maxwell was at his best in the first T20I against the Pakistan National Cricket Team. The opening match of the series between the teams took place at the Gabba in Brisbane on Thursday (14th November).
Glenn Maxwell, who failed in all three ODIs against the Pakistan National Cricket Team, made sure that he started the T20I series on high. In a game that was curtailed to a 7-over game per side, the all-rounder came up with a brutal effort with bat and put his team at the top.
Glenn Maxwell went after the bowlers right from the start
Maxwell, who came to bat at No.3, went after the bowlers right from the start and made sure that he kept the ante up even though the Australia National Cricket Team lost both the openers early on and were under pressure in a short game.
Maxwell looked unfazed by the wickets falling as he played the unorthodox cricket at his best and played sweeps and reverse sweeps all over the park. What caught the attention of many was his shot against Shaheen Afridi which made many stand and applaud him for his heroics with the bat.
On the third ball of the 4th over, Shaheen Afridi bowled a short-of-length delivery, angling across at pace. Glenn Maxwell went for a reverse sweep, rode on the bounce, and hit it flat over the boundary to leave the pacer in shock.

Maxwell was the man behind the carnage with the bat. The all-rounder ended with an inning of 43 runs off 19 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 226 and also hit 5 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. His terrific knock took the Australia National Cricket Team to a total of 93 runs.
Chasing the target, the Pakistan National Cricket Team had a torrid outing with the bat. Pacers Spencer Johnson, Xavier Bartlett, and Nathan Ellis were all over the batters and left the Mohammad Rizwan-led side struggling at 16/5 and then won the game by 29 runs.
Certainly had a lot of fun out there – Glenn Maxwell
Maxwell, while talking about his innings, said that he had a lot of fun in the middle, especially batting in powerplay. He stressed that they had thought the game would be called off, but as they stepped into the field, they intended to clear the field. Speaking after the game, he explained:
“Certainly had a lot of fun out there. To get the opportunity to bat for an over in the powerplay was great fun. There was a little bit of tack in the wicket. The bowlers did a great job. Few of us had packed our bags expecting the game to be called off. Credit to the guys. The two opening batsmen did a great job. From there the batters came out there with the intent to clear the ropes.”
