Glenn Maxwell livid with himself as he bags golden duck against CSK

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Glenn Maxwell didn’t have the kind of outing he would’ve wanted in the first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The curtain raiser between the teams is taking place at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.

After a blistering start, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, have been left in totters. Mustafizur Rahman removed Faf du Plessis (35) and Rajat Patidar in the same over. It was expected that Glenn Maxwell would join hands with Virat Kohli and bail the team out of trouble.

However, that wasn’t the case and things got worse for the RCB as Glenn Maxwell bagged a golden duck. He perished to Deepak Chahar as the Faf du Plessis-led side lost three wickets within the span of three runs in the game at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.

Deepak Chahar bowled a delivery length on off, tight stump-lined ball. Glenn Maxwell tried to open the bat face and run it down to third man. The ball was close for the shot and caught the outside edge of the bat. The ball was pouched safely by MS Dhoni behind the stumps.

What caught the attention of many was Glenn Maxwell’s reaction after he got out. He was livid with himself as he looked dejected with the way he got. The video of the incident went viral on the internet within no time. Here’s the video:

Glenn Maxwell was expected to play a big role with the bat but that wasn’t the case. He now will be extremely crucial for the team in the game with the ball. With Chepauk’s surface offering help for the spinners, the all-rounder needs to play a decent role with the bat.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) also doesn’t have any big names in the spin bowling department. They have picked Karn Sharma and Mayank Dagar in the XI but with not much experience in there, it will be a big headache and won’t be easy for them further in the tournament.

After Glenn Maxwell, RCB loses Virat Kohli as well

After Glenn Maxwell got out, it was expected that Virat Kohli would hold the fort for his team. He looked decent at the crease but couldn’t carry on the start that he got. He fell to Mustafizur Rahman, who picked his fourth wicket of the day and put Royal Challengers Bengaluru under immense pressure.

Virat Kohli shuffled inwards and tried to pull the back of length delivery angling across from Mustafizur Rahman. It was a slow delivery and the batter muscled the shot but couldn’t get it past the boundary ropes.

Ajinkya Rahane from deep mid-wicket moved to his right and gobbled the catch with a slide and then relayed it towards Rachin Ravindra as deep backward square leg as he was sliding towards the boundary. Virat Kohli scored 21 runs off 20 balls and managed just 1 six in his innings. With his wicket, RCB was left tottering at 77/4.
