The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is expected to be one of the most competitive, with 1,574 players registered to go under the hammer. Several top-tier Indian players, including veteran players and emerging talent, have set their base price at Rs 2 crore, as reported by ESPN Cricinfo.
The upcoming auction will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24-25. A total of 1,574 players have registered, with 1,165 from India and 409 from overseas. Among these, 320 are capped players, 1,224 are uncapped players, and 30 players from Associate Nations have registered for the auction.
KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer Among IPL 2025 Auction Pool
The mega auction generated significant interest among fans, with some surprising releases by franchises. KL Rahul, the skipper of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), will be available for bidding after being released by the franchise. Rahul was captain of the Lucknow-based franchise in the last three seasons.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant ended his long-time relationship with the Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the upcoming auction. Shreyas Iyer, who recently led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to an IPL title, has also been released by the franchise. Iyer will be available for auction before the IPL 2025 season.

According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, several Indian players, including Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul, have set their base price at Rs 2 crore for the IPL mega auction. These cricketers are expected to attract more money from franchises like Punjab Kings, DC, LSG, KKR, and RCB, who need a skipper.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, former players of the Rajasthan Royals, are part of the auction pool. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami, who has not played since the 2023 ODI World Cup final due to injury, has also listed himself at a base price of Rs 2 crore after being released by the Gujarat Titans.
The mega auction is expected to see competition for top players. Teams like the Punjab Kings, who have the largest remaining budget of Rs 110.5 crore, have an edge in acquiring big names. Other teams will also focus on securing key players to balance their lineups with both capped and uncapped players.
