Fit and Famous Is Sock Hop’s First B-T Stakes Winner

Iowa-bred Fit and Famous  claimed the Iowa Breeders’ Oaks Sept. 30 and in the process gave her sire Sock Hop  his first black-type stakes winner.

The 3-year-old filly went gate to wire, edging a late-charging Lavender Lil  by a neck in 1:43.28 over one mile and 70 yards at Prairie Meadows.

It was the chestnut’s fifth race and her career mark improved to 3-0-0 with $124,293 in career earnings. She broke her maiden on first asking at Hawthorne Race Course April 6.

She maintained a slim lead for most of the race, but as the field shuffled position at the top of the stretch, Fit and Famous expanded her advantage. However, the runner-up’s late push for the win ran out of track before the wire.

The Joel Hunsburger homebred is trained by Kevin Roman and out of the Fit to Fight mare Fit Performer.
