England Playing 11 vs India

Beleaguered England will be desperate to win the upcoming second ODI against India to keep the three-match series alive. The penultimate game of the series is scheduled to take place on Sunday (February 9) at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

England are on the verge of losing the ODI series too and needs to win the upcoming game at any cost to keep alive their chances of winning the series. The visitors were in a dominant position on several occasions in the first ODI but they eventually ended up losing the game by four wickets.

Batting first, England were off to a good start with their openers adding 75 runs for the first wicket. However, once the stand was broken, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell scored fifties but England were eventually all out for 248 runs.

With the ball, they managed to dismiss Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal cheaply but could not make further inroads in the game. India went on to recover and chase down the total inside 39 overs thanks to half-centuries from Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel.

With England now looking to secure a series-leveling victory, we are taking a look at the England Playing 11 for the second IND vs ENG ODI.

England Playing 11 vs India – 2nd ODI, England tour of India 2025:

Openers: Ben Duckett, Philip Salt

Ben Duckett and Phil Salt are expected to be the openers in the England Playing 11 for the second ODI. Both the openers got the starts in the first ODI but could not score big and will be keen to make amends in the do-or-die game for their side. Duckett scored 32 runs while Salt scored 43 runs as they added 75 runs for the opening wicket.

Middle-order batsmen and allrounders: Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (c), Liam Livingstone, Jacob Bethell, Jamie Overton

Playing his first ODI since 2023, Joe Root did not have the best of outings. The England star got the start but could not convert it into a big score and was out for 19. He will be looking to score big in the upcoming game.

Harry Brook once again failed to deliver with the bat as he was dismissed for a duck by Harshit Rana. Brook has struggled on the ongoing tour and will be desperate to turn things around and finish the series with a couple of good knocks.

Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell impressed with the bat in the first ODI for England, scoring 52 and 51 runs respectively. They will be eyeing another productive outing in the second ODI. Bethell also picked up a wicket.

Liam Livingstone had a disappointing outing as well, getting out for just 5 runs. With the ball, he conceded 28 runs in 5 overs and did not get any wickets. However, he should be continued in England Playing 11 vs India in the 2nd ODI.

Brydon Carse is expected to be dropped from the England Playing 11 after failing to impress in the first ODI. Carse conceded 52 runs in just 5 overs and did not pick any wicket in addition to scoring just 10 runs.

With Carse out, Jamie Overton is likely to be included in the England Playing 11. Overton picked up six wickets during the T20I series and will look to impress in the ODIs as well.

Bowlers: Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood

England are likely to play the second ODI with the same bowling lineup. Saqib Mahmood and Jofra Archer are expected to be the two frontline pacers in the England Playing 11 while Adil Rashid will be the specialist spinner. In the first ODI, Mahmood and Rashid picked up 2 wickets each while Archer claimed one wicket.
