Sanju Samson, on Saturday (October 12), roared back to form with a stunning century in the ongoing third India vs Bangladesh T20I at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
The right-handed batsman was under immense pressure before the game after a string of failures in recent games. He was out for a duck in both the T20Is against Sri Lanka in July before failing to impress in the first two games of the ongoing series.
In the first T20I played in Gwalior, he was out for 29 runs before scoring 10 runs in the second game in Delhi. After those failures, there were calls from several quarters to drop him from the team. However, the team management backed him again and Sanju Samson justified the decision by playing a stunning knock in the third game.
The Kerala star got going by hitting four boundaries in a row in the second over and did not look back after that. He completed his fifty in style in the seventh over by hitting two fours and a six in a row. It took him only 22 deliveries to reach his fifty.
It was a much-needed knock from Sanju Samson and his reaction said it all. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who hardly shows any emotion on the field, let out a huge roar and punched the air in delight as he celebrated the knock.
Samson made the most of his start and went on to score his maiden T20I ton. In the 10th over, he also hit Rishad Hossain for five sixes in a row to enter the 90s. He finally reached his century in the 13th over by hitting Mahedi Hasan for a four on the very first ball.
Even though Samson was quite pumped up after scoring his fifty, his celebration after reaching the century was quite normal. He just had a huge grin on his face before captain Suryakumar Yadav gave him a warm hug.
