Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has picked his favorites to win the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). The 17th edition of the tournament is in its final phase as the playoffs are all set to begin and the title decider will take place on the coming Sunday (May 26).
Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have qualified for the playoffs. KKR finished at the top of the points table followed by SRH, RR, and RCB. KKR and SRH will be locking horns in the qualifier 1 on Tuesday (May 21) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad while RR and RCB will be taking on each other in the Eliminator.
The winner of the first qualifier will qualify for the final while the loser will get another shot at the final. On the other hand, the loser of the Eliminator will be knocked out of the tournament while the winner will be taking on the loser of the first qualifier for a place in the final.
While only will tell which team goes on to win the competition this year, Sunil Gavaskar has backed RCB to go all the way. Speaking on Star Sports ahead of the first qualifier, the legendary batsman said that the Bengaluru-based outfit is set to win its first IPL title this season.

RCB’s stunning run in IPL 2024:
RCB have defied all the odds to qualify for the playoffs this season. Their chances of making it to the playoffs were almost nil after they lost seven of their first eight games. With nothing going their way till the halfway stage of the tournament, not many backed them to finish the competition well let alone finish in the top four.
However, the Faf du Plessis-led side staged a remarkable turnaround and won six games in a row to storm into the playoffs. They have thoroughly dominated their opposition during the six-match winning run and will be fancying their chances of going all the way this season. The momentum as well as form is with RCB and many indeed believe that this could finally be their year.
