Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes 2013 Contenders & Odds

Las Vegas, NV – The Grade 3 Delta Downs Jackpot takes place this Saturday, November 23 from Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana. A nice purse of $1 million will be on the line as well as 10 qualification points for the 2014 Kentucky Derby when a group of two year olds go 1 1/16 miles on Delta Downs’ dirt track.

The Delta Downs Jackpot has attracted a field of 10 to go in race 7 on Delta Downs’ Saturday card. Post time is 4:15 PM. Here is a look into the credentials of all 10 entries for this lucrative Grade 3 stakes.

Coastline – Mark Casse trained colt won his stakes debut last time out – the minor Street Sense Stakes over Almost Famous by an impressive three lengths at Churchill Downs October 27 after breaking maiden by 3 1/2 lengths in his second career start. He debuted September 13 and finished second to Almost Famous in a MSW at Churchill Downs for his only other career result. Coastline is expected to carry momentum from his impressive stakes debut into his first graded stakes start Saturday – he is 5-2 on the morning line and departs from post 2 with Shaun Bridgmohan in the saddle.

Rise Up – Thomas Amoss trained colt is coming off a terrific 6 1/2 length win in the minor Jean Lafitte Stakes on this track October 26 after a sixth in his only graded stakes action – the Grade 3 Iroquois at Churchill Downs September 7. He also won the minor Mountaineer Juvenile in relatively easy fashion August 3 and had a MSW score right before that. Except for one bad result Rise Up has been in the mix every time out – three wins and a second in five career starts. Rise Up is the morning line second choice at 3-1 odds and will line up in post 10 with Gerald Melancon aboard.

Casiguapo – debuted with a respectable third in the minor Frank Gomez Memorial Stakes June 22 at Calder and went on to break maiden for trainer Mario Morales – a MSW on that same track July 20. Last time out was an OK fourth in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park October 5 after a very good graded stakes debut – a second behind Strong Mandate in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga September 2. Luis Saez gets the mount for the 4-1 third choice from post 8.

Rum Point – Doug O’Neill trained colt made his stakes debut September 4 with a distant ninth in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity after a MSW win August 3 and a third in a MSW at Hollywood Park July 14. Last time out he raced to a twelfth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile after a fourth in the Grade 1 Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland October 5. Rum Point is 5-1 on the morning line and will have Mario Gutierrez guiding him from post 5.

Whyruawesome – looked pretty good in his first two career starts. He debuted with a MSW score August 16 and followed that with a good second behind Solitary in the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Futurity September 7 only to stumble badly and finish eleventh in the Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland October 6. Last time out was a fifth in an Allowance at Keeneland October 20. Whyaruawesome leaves from the rail Saturday at 10-1 odds.

Mighty Brown – has four second place finishes and a third in six career starts – the most recent second coming last time out in the minor Jean Lafitte Stakes here October 26. He also had a second in the minor Sunday Silence Stakes at Louisiana Downs in September. Mighty Brown has been knocking on the door but has been unable to break through so far. He is listed at 12-1 odds and will have Miguel Mena in the saddle from post 4.

Big Bazinga – ships in from Woodbine after two good career starts. Last time out was a second in the Grade 3 Grey Stakes October 6 after a MSW score September 8. The mighty impressive Rosie Napravnik will be aboard the lightly raced Big Bazinga as he goes off at 12-1 odds from post 9.

Rankhasprivileges – Kenneth McPeek pupil has just one career start and it was a good one – a MSW score at Keeneland October 20. Robby Albarado gets the call from post 7 at 15-1 odds.

Flat Gone – Keith Desormeaux trained colt is coming off a third place in the minor Jean Lafite Stakes on this track October 26 – the only time he has placed in four career starts. Before the Lafite Flat Out finished fifth in the Grade 1 Frontrunner in September at Santa Anita and has a fourth and a fifth respectively in a pair of MSW races. Flat Gone leaves from post 6 at 20-1 odds Saturday.

Roman Unbridled – most recently finished fourth on this track in the minor Jean Lafitte Stakes October 26 after breaking maiden here October 11 in his fourth career start. He started his career this summer with three MSW races at Ellis Park with a fifth, a third and a sixth in his debut. Go Unbridled is the longest shot in the field at 30-1 odds but will have Mike Smith in the saddle.
