Delhi Capitals (DC) will be keen to start their campaign in IPL 2025 with a win. They will open their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The game is scheduled to take place on Monday (March 24) at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
Delhi Capitals will be starting a new journey this season as they will be led by a new captain. With Rishabh Pant no longer a part of the franchise, Axar Patel has been named as his replacement. The India allrounder has been performing well with both bat and ball in recent months and will be keen to show his leadership skills too.
Delhi Capitals failed to qualify for the playoffs last season and finishing in the top four will be their first target. They are also eyeing their first-ever IPL title.
The Delhi-based outfit will be looking to start their season on a good note. And as they gear up for their game against Lucknow Super Giants, we are taking a look at the DC Playing 11.
Delhi Capitals Playing 11 vs LSG- IPL 2025, Match 4:
Openers: Faf du Plessis, Jake Fraser-McGurk
The Delhi Capitals Playing 11 is set to have a new opening combination for IPL 2025. While Jake Fraser-McGurk is set to continue opening the innings for the team, his new opening partner is expected to be South African veteran Faf du Plessis.
Fraser-McGurk made his debut in the IPL last year and hit the ground running. He played nine games and scored 330 runs with the help of four fifties. The Australian youngster impressed one and all with his aggressive batting as he scored his runs at a blistering strike rate of 234.
Du Plessis, on the other hand, is one of the most experienced batsmen in the IPL at present. Having played for Chennai Super Kings, now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the past, the former South Africa captain will now look to make an impact for Delhi Capitals as well. In his IPL career so far, he has played 145 games and scored 4571 runs with the help of 37 fifties.
Middle-order batsmen and allrounders: Abishek Porel (WK), KL Rahul, Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel, Ashutosh Sharma
Abishek Porel is expected to play an important role for Delhi Capitals this season. The wicketkeeper-batsman was retained by DC after his impressive display last year and he will be looking to justify the decision. Porel has played 18 IPL games so far and has scored 360 runs at a strike rate of more than 150.
While KL Rahul opened the innings for his last team Lucknow Super Giants, it won’t be surprising if he bats at number four for Delhi Capitals. The former LSG captain bats in the middle-order for India in ODIs and has done well. His experience will be a huge factor for DC’s middle-order and the onus will be on the right-handed batsman to deliver with the bat.
Tristan Stubbs was one of DC’s most impressive batters last season and was also retained by the franchise. The South African batsman can take the game away from the opposition in a matter of few deliveries and DC will be relying heavily on him.
DC Playing 11 have another explosive batsman in the form of Ashutosh Sharma. The right-handed batsman hit the ground running in the IPL last year, impressing one and all with his ultra-aggressive batting. Playing for Punjab Kings, Sharma scored 189 runs at a strike rate of close to 170.
The main allrounder in the DC Playing 11 is set to be their newly-appointed captain Axar Patel. With the all-rounder doing extremely well in recent times, the franchise has rewarded him with the captaincy. The onus will now be on Axar to deliver not only as an allrounder but a captain as well and end DC’s long wait for their maiden IPL trophy.
Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Mitchell Starc, Mukesh Kumar, T Natarajan
The DC Playing 11 is likely to have three frontline fast bowlers and one spinner. Mukesh Kumar and recruits T Natarajan and Mitchell Starc are set to be the leading pacers of the DC Playing 11. On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav will be the frontline spinner with Axar Patel being the other spin bowler in the team.
