David Miller’s terrific catch under pressure to remove Tim David tilts game in favor of Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans (GT) batter David Miller oozed his class on the field in the game against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The match between the two heavyweights took place at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Chasing the target of 169 runs, Mumbai Indians had the game under their control for most of the time. Rohit Sharma (43) and Dewald Brevis (46) were keeping the team in the hunt and during the time they were batting, it seemed the Hardik Pandya-led side would win the game.

Even after Rohit and Brevis got out, Mumbai was looking like favorites with the kind of batters they had in the mix. Many had put their bet on Tim David and with the reputation that he brings, it seemed that he would take his team home as not many runs were there in the bank.

However, Tim David couldn’t set the stage and fire as Mumbai came under pressure. But it’s fair to say that had David Miller not been there, things would’ve been different. The GT player produced a magnificent effort in the field that sent dangerous David back into the game.

During the last ball of the 18th over, Mohit Sharma bowled a slower ball outside off. Tim David dragged it off the bottom half of the bat and hit it high into the night sky around the mid-wicket region. It seemed that the ball would land safely and the batter would get a life.

But it wasn’t meant to be as David Miller from deep mid-wicket, nearly ran a marathon and put a sensational well-timed dive to grab the catch inches above the turf. And send the dangerous Tim David back in the hut for just 11 runs.

David Miller’s terrific effort in the field tilted the game for Gujarat Titans as they won the game from the jaws of defeat. With 19 runs needed in the last over, Hardik Pandya hit 10 runs off the first two balls. But Umesh Yadav made a solid comeback and defended the target to win the game by 4 runs.

It was outstanding – Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill after win over GT

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill opened up about the win his team registered in the game against Mumbai Indians. He hailed the bowlers’ effort as outstanding and lauded Sai Sudharsan for his valiant effort with the bat. Speaking to broadcasters, he explained:

“The way the boys held their nerves with dew coming in, it was outstanding. The way our spinners bowled made sure we were always in the game. It’s all about holding your nerves. He (Sai Sudharsan) has been a revelation for us. We just wanted to build on the pressure and wait for them to make mistakes.

“The crowd is one thing, have always come whether it is a day game or a night game and shout out to all the fans who have come here to support us. I thought that was a good score, but we definitely left at least 15 runs there, it was hard to hit those short balls as the wicket got a bit slow towards the end.”

Gujarat Titans will be next seen in action when they will take on Chennai Super Kings on 26th March at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
