Las Vegas, NV – Parx Racing in Bensalem, Pennsylvania will be the scene of the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes on Saturday, September 19. Three year old fillies will be after the winner’s share of the generous $1 million purse when they take to Parx’s dirt track and race 1 1/16 miles.
12 sophomore females will take part in the Cotillion Stakes – race 9 on Parx’s Saturday schedule. Post time is 4:50 PM. Here is a peek into the past performances of all 12 combatants for this lucrative Grade 1 stakes.
I’m a Chatterbox 3-1 – multiple graded stakes winner and Larry Jones trained filly has four wins, two seconds and two third place finishes in nine career starts. She enters on the heels of a consecutive seconds – behind Curalina after being DQ’d for interference in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks July 26 and last time out in the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga August 22. She also had an OK third in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks May 1 and a three race win streak- the Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks March 28, over Lovely Maria in the Grade 3 Rachel Alexandra Stakes February 21 and the minor Silverbulletday Stakes in January – all results at Fair Grounds. She has been impressive indeed and is expected to challenge again Sunday. Florent Geroux gets the call on the tepid morning line favorite from gate 8 hoping to maintain the solid streak.
Embellish the Lace 4-1 – Anthony Dutrow trained filly has five career starts with three wins. Last time out was a career defining win – over I’m a Chatterbox in the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes at Saratoga August 22. That followed an ugly ninth in the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park June 26, an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Pimlico June 4 and a maiden score at Parx in December – those two wins coming by a combined 23 1/2 lengths. She has won three of her last four starts (two of her last three in gate-to-wire fashion) and hopes to keep the roll going Saturday from post 3 – with Javier Castellano in the irons.
Take Charge Brandi 5-1 – the champion 2-year-old filly of 2014, D Wayne Lukas trained filly raced for the first time since January 31 August 8 and finished a disappointing tenth in the Grade 1 Test Stakes. Before her layoff was a terrific four race win streak – the minor Martha Washington Stakes at Oaklawn Park in January, the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes in December, the Grade 3 Delta Downs Princess Stakes November 22 and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at 61-1 odds. She lost three straight before that by a combined 36 1/2 lengths – an eighth in the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland October 3 and fifths in the Grade 2 Pocahontas Stakes September 6 and the Adirondack Stakes in August. Take Charge Brandi was one of the most feared Juvenile filly on the planet before her layoff and hopes to bounce back from an ugly effort last time out. Luis Saez gets the call from post 5.
Eskenformoney 6-1 – Todd Pletcher trained filly has 12 career starts with two wins, four seconds and a third place finish. She enters off an OK second in the Grade 3 Monmouth Oaks August 22 which followed a fifth in the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes in June and an ugly tenth in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks May 1. She also had a decent second in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks March 28, an OK third in the Grade 2 Davona Dale Stakes February 21 and a tidy two race wins streak – an Allowance Optional Claiming by 3 3/4 lengths January 16 and a maiden score December 16 by 9 3/4 lengths in her sixth career start. Eskenformoney hopes to build on a decent effort last time out from post 11 with John Velazquez guiding her.
Keen Pauline 8-1 – Dale Romans trained filly raced in stakes company for the first time in May and won the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes in gate-to-wire fashion at Pimlico May 15 but followed that with a sixth last time out in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks July 26. She broke maiden last September in her second career start and recorded a fourth in an Allowance April 16. Keen Pauline also had a third and a second respectively in a pair of Allowance Optional Claiming races this past winter. She has placed in just one of her last three starts but a win two starts back has her on the radar. Martin Garcia gets the call from post 9.
Tara’s Tango 8-1 – Jerry Hollendorfer trained filly has five career starts with two wins and three runner-up finishes. Last time out was an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Del Mar August 5 after three straight runner-up finishes – the Grade 2 Summertime Oaks June 20 at Santa Anita, as favorite in the minor Angels Flight Stakes May and the minor Santa Paula Stakes April 5. Her other win was a maiden score in track record time over Del Mar synthetic Polytrack. Tara’s Tango has been knocking on the door but still looks for her first stakes Saturday – from the rail with Mike Smith in the saddle.

Peace and War 8-1 – won the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland in October but has been inconsistent since. She enters off consecutive seconds – the best of which was last time out in the Grade 3 Delaware Oaks July 11. Before that was an eighth in the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile in May and a seventh in the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes in April. Peace and War enters in so-so form from post 7 with Joel Rosario in the reins.
Calamity Kate 10-1 – finished second in the Grade 2 Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct to end her 2014 campaign in November after a ninth in the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades in October. She has three starts in 2015 – including a win last time out at 54-1 odds in the Grade 3 Delaware Oaks July 11. Before that was an eighth in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes and an Allowance Optional Claiming score in May. Calamity Kate has three wins and a second place finish in eight career starts and hopes for her second straight graded stakes score when she leaves from post 10 with Edgar Prado in the irons.
Pangburn 12-1 – has nine career starts with three wins, two seconds and a third place finish. She enters off an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Saratoga August 21, an ugly eighth in the Grade 2 Indiana Oaks in July and a good second in the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks in June. Pangburn will be after her first graded stakes score Saturday from gate 6 with Ricardo Santana aboard.
Don’tforgetaboutme 15-1 – Todd Pletcher trained filly races in stakes company for the first time Saturday. She enters off an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Monmouth Park after consecutive eighth place finishes in Allowance races earlier this year. Irad Ortiz has been tabbed to ride from the outside post 12.
Desert Valley 20-1 – has 13 career starts for trainer Jeffrey Radosevich with four wins, a second and three third place finishes. She has won three of her last four starts – all Allowance races at Thistletown. She has two graded stakes starts in her career with less-than-spectacular results – a sixth in the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes March 7 and a seventh in the Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks March 28. Desert Valley hopes her recent success against lesser company translates Saturday. Deshawn Parker rides from gate 2.
Stroke Play 20-1 – has 12 career starts for trainer Ramon Preciado with five wins, a second and a third place finish. She enters on a three race win streak – an Allowance Optional Claiming at Delaware Park August 22 and two Allowance races on this track early in the summer. She also posted a respectable third in the Parx Oaks in May. Stroke Play looks for her first stakes win Saturday and enters in good form. Angel Castillo rides from gate 4.
