Collmus to Call Races on Penn Mile Day

Internationally acclaimed race caller Larry Collmus will be behind the microphone at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course June 2 for Penn Mile Night.

Collmus, who has announced the Triple Crown series and the Breeders’ Cup World Championships for NBC Sports since 2011, will be calling the action for Penn National’s signature race, the $400,000 Penn Mile (G2T) for 3-year-olds. He will call the other five stakes that evening, which include the $150,000 Penn Oaks, also at a mile for 3-year-old fillies; and four Pennsylvania-bred stakes, each with a $100,000 purse. The state-bred stakes are the Danzig Stakes and New Start Stakes going six furlongs on the dirt for 3-year-olds and 3-year-old fillies, respectively; and the Lyphard Stakes and With Anticipation Stakes, each at 1 1/16 miles on the turf for 3-year-olds and up. The Lyphard is for fillies and mares and the With Anticipation for 3-year-olds and up.

Collmus will begin his visit to the Grantville, Pa., racetrack by hosting a meet and greet on the track apron starting at 4:30 p.m. ET.

The 56-year-old native of Baltimore began his announcing career at age 18 in 1985 at Bowie Race Track in Maryland. Besides calling the races in his home state at Pimlico Race Course, Timonium, and Laurel Park, he has worked at the Birmingham Turf Club, Golden Gate Fields, Suffolk Downs, Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, Saratoga Race Course, Gulfstream Park, Del Mar, and Churchill Downs.
