BWF World Tour Finals 2024: Treesa-Gayatri pair crashes out after loss to Japanese duo

Indian women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand exited the BWF World Tour Finals 2024 after losing in straight games against Japanese duo Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida in their Group A tie in Hangzhou on Friday.

The Indian shuttlers lost 17-21, 13-21 in a do-or-die match where a win would have secured them a spot in the semifinal of the tournament.

Treesa and Gayatri, the only Indians to qualify for the season-ending tournament, faced defeat in their opening match of the group against World No. 1 Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China.

They bounced back with a win against Malaysian pair Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan in their second match to keep their semifinal hopes alive.

However, after the most recent loss, they finished third in their group with just one point from three games. The Chinese and Japanese pairs finished first and second in the group respectively and advanced to the next stage.
