Group 1 winner Broome has been retired to Celikoglu Stud, according to reports in Turkey.
The 7-year-old son of Australia had been racing with credit for six seasons for trainer Aidan O’Brien and a Coolmore ownership syndicate including Masaaki Matsushima. His top-level successes include the 2021 Grand Prix de Saint Cloud (G1) as well as victories in the Mooresbridge Stakes (G2), the Hardwicke (G2) at Royal Ascot, and this year’s Dubai Gold Cup (G1).
Bred by Epona Bloodstock, Broome is out of the useful Acclamation mare Sweepstake. He is a full brother to multiple group winner Point Lonsdale , most recently third in the Nov. 17 Bahrain International Trophy (G2) and a three-parts brother to last season’s promising Frankel juvenile Diego Velazquez , winner of the Champions Juvenile Stakes (G2) at Leopardstown.
Turkish journalist Yaris Dergisi said that a private deal had been made to purchase him by breeder Ali Riza Celikoglu through agency HRP Dis Ticaret As.
Broome earned $2,814,348 in a career and sports a 9-6-2 record from 39 trips to the post. His final start was in last month’s Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1T) at Santa Anita Park, where he was eleventh. It was his third trip to the Breeders’ Cup after finishing a narrow second to Yibir in the 2021 edition and sixth in the 2022 running.
In June, Celikoglu Stud lost the well-traveled grade 1 winner El Corredor at the age of 26.
