Las Vegas, NV – The Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile is on tap for Santa Anita in Arcadia, California the Friday, October 31. Horses three years old and upward will take to Santa Anita’s dirt track an race one mile searching for the winner’s share of the $1 million purse.

A field of 10 have been confirmed for the competitive Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile – race 7 on Santa Anita’s Friday card. Post time is 3:05 PM PDT. Here is a look into the past performances of all 10 entries for one of four Cup races on the Friday card.

Goldencents 6-5 – consistent Doug O`Neill trained colt finished an ugly seventeenth as one of the favorites in the 2013 Kentucky Derby but he looked good after that – two wins and six second place finishes in nine starts since. The highlights were a terrific win in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile and a win two back by 4 1/4 lengths in the Grade 2 Pat O’Brien Stakes at Del Mar August 24. The seconds came last time out in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship October 4, in the Grade 1 Bing Crosby July 27, the Grade 1 Met Mile in June and three straight stakes in 2013. He also had a seventh in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile and a fifth in the Preakness sandwiched in there. Goldencents has just two wins in the last 18 months but has been very competitive in every race the last year. Off a win and three second place finishes in his last four starts, the defending champ is expected to be one of the ones to catch. Rafael Bejarano rides from the rail.

Fed Biz 7-2 – Bob Baffert trained colt has looked good lately – consecutive seconds heading into this weekend – the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes here September 27 and to Goldencents as 3-2 favorite in the Grade 2 Pat O’Brien Stakes August 24 – a race he won in 2013. Before that was a nice 5 1/4 length win in the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap July 26. He finished sixth in the 2013 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile before that. Other results include an OK third in the Grade 2 Strub February 2, 2013, a third in the Grade 1 Frank Kilroe Mile March 2, a second in the minor Thunder Road Stakes at Santa Anita last April 6 and a good win in the Grade 2 San Fernando Stakes in January, 2013. Fed Biz has six wins, three seconds and three third place finishes in 18 career starts. Martin Garcia has the mount from post 7.

Pants On Fire 6-1 – had a two race win streak before last year’s Breeders’ Cup – the Grade 2 Monmouth Cup July 28 and the Grade 3 Ack Ack Handicap at Churchill Downs September 7 and went on to a disappointing seventh in the Breeders’ Cup. Pants on Fire then made an unsuccessful trip to Japan and finished sixteenth in the Grade 1 Japan Cup before taking eight months off. He returned July 25 and finished an OK third in the Grade 2 Monmouth Cup and has been steadily improving since – consecutive seconds in the Grade 3 Philip H. Iselin Stakes and the minor Left bank Stakes were followed by a win last time out in the minor Wild and Wonderful Stakes at Charles Town September 20. He has placed in his last four starts overall and looks like he’s peaking ahead of this weekend. Paco Lopez will be in the saddle from post 4.

Tapiture 6-1 – Steve Asmussen pupil has four graded stakes wins, three seconds and two third place finishes in 11 career starts and is coming off a respectable second in the Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby at Parx September 20 which followed a nice two race win streak – the Grade 2 West Virginia Derby August 2 and the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill Downs June 14. Before that was an ugly fifteenth place finish in the Kentucky Derby, an OK fourth in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park, a second in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes March 15 and two straight wins – the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes and the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes. He has been at or near the top in almost every career start – more of the same is expected Friday. Rosie Napravnik has the mount from post 9.

Vicar’s in Trouble 12-1 – Michael Maker trainee was has placed in his last four starts – a second in the Grade 2 Indiana Derby last time out followed a good win in the Grade 2 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs September 6 and consecutive thirds – behind Tapiture and Candy Boy in the Grade 2 West Virginia Derby August 2 which followed another third as favorite in the Grade 3 Iowa Derby June 28. Before that was a disappointing nineteenth in the Kentucky Derby, and three wins and two third place finishes in five career starts – including two graded stakes wins by a combined 10 1/4 lengths. Except for one bad outing five months ago Vicar’s in Trouble has been very good against some top fields, placing in eight of nine starts. John Velazquez has been tabbed to ride from gate 3.

Bronzo 12-1 – Group 1 winner in Chile enters having won three of his last four starts but hasn’t raced since June. He has an impressive 11 wins, a second and four third place finishes in 19 career starts but may be in tough in his North American debut. Luis Torres will guide Bronzo from post 7.

Carve 15-1 – Brad Cox trainee is coming off a fifth in the minor Homecoming Classic Stakes at Churchill Downs September 27 which followed a good second in the Grade 3 Ack Ack Handicap three weeks earlier and a three race win streak – the minor West Virginia Governor’s Stakes, the Grade 3 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap and an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Churchill Downs June 14. That streak followed an ugly seventh in the Grade 3 Pimlico Special May 16, a respectable third in the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap April 12 and an Allowance Optional Claiming score on that track in March. Carve has six wins, two seconds and four third place finishes in 17 career starts and has placed in four of his last five starts overall with three wins over that span. Mike Smith will be in the irons from gate 2.

Golden Ticket 15-1 – 2012 Travers winner – Kenneth McPeek trainee also won the minor Prairie Meadows Handicap July 27, 2013 by eight lengths and had an Allowance Optional Claiming score in May and a second in last year’s Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap sandwiched in there. He has continued to be a tad inconsistent since then – a good second behind Goldencents in the Breeders’ Cup Mile came after a fourth in the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes here in September. Golden Ticket has eight starts in 2014 and has placed in just three – a disappointing sixth last time out was followed by a win in the minor Left Bank Stakes September 5 and an ugly ninth in the Grade 1 Whitney. He has 29 career starts with six wins, eight seconds and three third place finishes. Joel Rosario will be in the reins from gate 6.

Big Bane Theory 15-1 – Carla Gaines trainee is coming off a terrific win in the Grade 2 City of Hope Mile Stakes here October 4 after a second in the minor Harry F. Brubaker Stakes in August – his first start of the year. He ended 2013 with a fourth in the Grade 2 Citation Handicap, an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Santa Anita October 14 and a second in a similar race in August. He has 11 career starts with four wins, two seconds and a third place finish and off a win should be confident ahead of this weekend. Joe Talamo rides from the outside post.

Handsome Mike 30-1 – has just three wins in 30 career starts including the Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby in September, 2012 and in April, 2013 at the Grade 3 Commonwealth Stakes. He has been typically inconsistent lately – a third last time out in the Grade 2 Del Mar Mile followed a fifth in the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap July 26, a second in the minor American Flag Stakes July 4, a second in the Grade 3 Precisionist Stakes May 3 and a third in the Grade 3 San Simeon Stakes April 13 – with a sixth in the Grade 2 Californian sandwiched in there as well. He ended 2013 with an eighth in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint and a third in the Grade 3 Vernon O. Underwood Stakes. He looks for his first win since April, 2013 (15 starts).
