2016 Bourbonette Oaks Race Preview

Marquee Miss 3-1 – Ingrid Mason trained filly has three wins in seven career starts. She started her year with a bang – wins in the minor Martha Washington Stakes and the minor Dixie Belle Stakes – both at Oaklawn Park but she did record a DNF on an unfavorable sloppy track last time out in the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes on that track March 12. Marquee Miss will be out to avenge the disappointment of her last start and get her third win in four starts – from gate 3 with Channing Hill in the reins of the morning line favorite.

Dorodansa 5-1 – has a win, two seconds and a third place finish in six career starts for trainer Kenneth McPeek. She enters off a fourth in the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes March 12, an OK third in the minor Martha Washington Stakes February , a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming January 15 and a second in the minor Trapeze Stakes at Remington Park in December. Dorodansa has been decent in her career and hopes for a first stakes win from post 5. Corey Nakatani has the mount on the morning line second choice.

Lookout Sister 6-1 – Graham Motion trained filly won the minor Small Wonder Stakes at Delaware Park September 12 which followed a fifth in her graded stakes debut – the Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes in August and a maiden score at first asking July 18. Last time out was a major step back however – a tenth in the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland way back on October 2. Lookout Sister has been up and down in her career and hopes to bounce back from an ugly effort six months ago. Alan Garcia has been tabbed with accomplishing that goal from gate 6.

Wonderment 8-1 – has two wins and a third place finish in three career starts for trainer Kenneth McPeek. Last time out was a somewhat disappointing third in the minor Franklin Square Stakes at Aqueduct February 20 after a good win in the minor Lynbrook Stakes at Belmont Park July 19 and another win at first asking at Belmont Park July 9. She has been pretty good so far and hopes to keep the roll going in her first start outside of New York – from gate 2 with Cornelio Velasquez in the saddle.

Miss Meteor 8-1 – Todd Pletcher trained filly has three career starts with just one win – that coming last time out in a MSW at Gulfstream January 31. She started her career with consecutive fourth place finishes in similar races. She looks to make it two wins in a row in her first foray into stakes company – from post 9 with Manuel Franco guiding her.

Artesian 10-1 – Francis McNeely trained filly has two career starts and two wins. She makes her stakes debut off an Allowance score at Keeneland way back on October 24. It followed a win at first asking at Presque Isle Downs October 1. Artesian has looked impressive so far and hopes to make a little noise in her first stakes action. Pablo Morales has been tabbed to ride in her first race in six months – from post 7.

American Doll 10-1 – Ben Colbrook trained filly has three wins, a second and a third place finish in six career starts. She makes her stakes debut on the heels of a nice three race win streak – all on this track. Last time out was an Allowance score March 12 after wins in an Allowance Optional Claiming in February (both at the Bourbonette distance) and a MSW by 6 1/2 lengths in January. American Doll arrives in career best form for her step up and has three wins and a third place finish on synthetic. Orlando Mojica has the mount from gate 10.

Inconclusive 10-1 – has two wins and a second place finish in eight career starts for trainer Richard Scherer. She enters on the heels of consecutive fourth place finishes – the minor Allen Black Cat LaCombe Memorial Overnight Stakes March 5 and the minor Joseph E. Spanky Broussard Overnight Stakes February 5 – both results at Fair Grounds. Before that was an Allowance Optional Claiming score on that track January 8, a seventh in the minor Rags to Riches Stakes at Churchill Downs in November and a sixth in the Grade 3 Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland in October. Inconclusive hasn’t been all that impressive so far but hopes to change all of that around from gate 8. Florent Geroux has the mount.

Egyptian Honey 12-1 – has two wins in five career starts for trainer Michael Maker. She enters off a sixth place in her stakes debut – the minor Allen Black Cat LaCombe Memorial Overnight Stakes at Fair Grounds March 5 and a two race win streak – an Allowance Optional Claiming by an impressive four lengths on this track December 11 and a maiden score at Indiana Grand in October. Egyptian Honey hopes to regain her winter form in her graded stakes bow – from post 11 with Robby Albarado aboard.

Lope 12-1 – has six career starts for trainer Albert Stall with a win, two seconds and a third place finish. Last time out was a respectable second in the minor Joseph E. Spanky Broussard Overnight Stakes February 5 which followed another second in an Allowance Optional Claiming January 8 and a third in another Allowance Optional Claiming December -all at Fair Grounds. She did post a maiden score before that – at Keeneland October 22. Lope has placed in her last four starts overall and will be after her first stakes win – from the outside post 12 with Brian Joseph Hernandez in the reins.

Lemon Drop Belle 15-1 – Dallas Stewart trained filly has three career starts with a win and a second place finish. She made her stakes debut last time out and finished a disappointing eighth in the Grade 2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes at Fair Grounds February 20. It followed a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming in that track January 23 and a win at first asking – at Woodbine in November. Lemon Drop Belle will be after her first stakes score Saturday when she leaves from the rail with Jesus Lopez Castanon aboard.

Red Fern Doll 20-1 – has just one win in six career starts for trainer Grant Forster. She broke maiden December 20 in her fourth career start – at Fair Grounds but has since recorded consecutive seventh place finishes in minor stakes action – the Allen Black Cat LaCombe memorial Overnight Stakes last time out at Fair Grounds March 5 and the Martha Washington Stakes February 6 at Oaklawn Park. Red Fern Doll hasn’t been all that impressive so far but chases a major breakthrough from gate 4. Corey Lanerie gets the call.

Castiel’s Angel – Alternate Entry may make just her third career start Saturday having posted a win and a third place finish so far. Last time out was a third place finish in an Allowance March 9 after a maiden score at first asking – both results at Delta Downs. She may step into stakes company for the first time Saturday.

Red Atlantic – Alternate Entry has a win, a second and a third place finish in six career starts and may enter off a fourth in the minor Franklin Square Stakes at Aqueduct February 20. She posted a win, a second and a third respectively in a trio of MSW races before that.
