BCCI mentioned as Harbhajan Singh attacks Congress politician for body-shaming Rohit Sharma

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh came to the defence of Rohit Sharma after Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed criticized the Indian captain’s fitness and leadership. Mohamed, in a now-deleted post on X, labelled Rohit “unfit” and “unimpressive as a captain,” which led to backlash.

Rohit Sharma is currently leading India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Men in Blue are unbeaten in the tournament and are set to face New Zealand in the final in Dubai on Sunday, March 9. The 37-year-old also led India to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.

I Just Asked a Very Simple Question to That Lady – Harbhajan Singh

In a conversation with India Today, Harbhajan Singh questioned the credibility of Shama Mohamed. Harbhajan asked whether she had any expertise in cricket or fitness assessments.

“Well, there will be people who’ll keep on talking about his fitness, captaincy skills. But I just asked a very simple question to that lady who made this remark about Rohit Sharma’s fitness, whether she’s a part of BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) or any other organization where she understands the rule and also the fitness. What are her own achievements when it comes to sports?” Harbhajan Singh told India Today.

“So, putting a finger towards anyone is very easy but at the same time, the thumb is facing towards you, so just check yourself too,” he further said.

Rohit Sharma Is a Very Hardworking Guy – Harbhajan Singh

The former cricketer highlighted the challenges of representing the country and leading the team, especially in the Champions Trophy. Harbhajan Singh said that Rohit Sharma is a hardworking and selfless leader who always prioritizes the team’s success over personal achievements.

“It’s very hard for people to actually understand how it is to be playing for India and the kind of pressure a player goes through—only that player knows.”

“He’s got the responsibility to take the team forward, but he also needs to perform as a player. Rohit Sharma is a very hardworking guy, he’s a selfless guy. He’s someone who’s a leader, who leads from the front, who always puts the team’s interest first rather than himself. Good to have a leader like him, a player like him,” said Harbhajan.

Rohit Sharma Creates History as an Indian Captain in ICC Tournaments

Rohit Sharma became the first Indian captain to lead his team to the final of all four ICC events—the ODI and T20 World Cups, Champions Trophy, and World Test Championship (WTC). He has the chance to lift another trophy as India prepare to face New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final in Dubai.

With a victory in the summit clash, Rohit will join MS Dhoni among the Indian captains to win multiple ICC titles. However, Rohit has struggled with the bat, scoring 104 runs at an average of 26. The right-handed batter failed to score a half-century in four innings, with a highest score of 41 runs.

India are unbeaten in the tournament and have already defeated New Zealand in the group stage. Meanwhile, the Blackcaps secured their spot in the final with a 50-run win over South Africa in the semi-finals.
