BCCI calls IPL captains’ meeting in Mumbai ahead of season opener

All 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise captains are set to gather in Mumbai on Thursday, March 20, for a crucial pre-season meeting ahead of Indian Premier League 2025 season opener on March 22. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called a meeting at its headquarters, the Cricket Centre, at noon.

As reported by Cricbuzz, apart from the 10 captains, team managers from each franchise have also been invited by the BCCI to attend the pre-season meeting. According to official communication from the BCCI and Indian Premier League, the session will provide details to the captains and team management about the latest changes and updates for the upcoming IPL 2025.

All 10 captains to gather in Mumbai for pre-season meeting

Following the meeting which is expected to last an hour, the captains will head to the Taj Hotel for sponsor-related activities. The entire event is expected to last four hours, and it will conclude with the traditional pre-season photo shoot featuring all the team captains.

While such meetings and photo sessions are typically held in the city hosting the season opener, this time, the decision to conduct it at the BCCI office hints at something more significant than just a routine rule briefing.

Usually, such meetings and photoshoots take place in the city hosting the Indian Premier League opener, but this time, BCCI’s Mumbai office has been selected as the venue instead of Kolkata, which will host the season opener on March 22 between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders.

All captains for Indian Premier League 2025 confirmed

BCCI’s unusual move hints at something more significant than just a routine discussion of tournament rules in the meeting. Meanwhile, all ten Indian Premier League teams have confirmed their captains for the 2025 season. Delhi Capitals recently appointed Axar Patel as their new skipper.

Rajat Patidar will lead the RCB, while Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant are the other new captains of KKR, PBKS, and LSG, respectively. On the other hand, Pat Cummins, Hardik Pandya, and Ruturaj Gaikwad continue to lead SRH, MI, and CSK, respectively.

Sanju Samson and Shubman Gill will captain Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans in the upcoming IPL 2025, respectively. Most IPL captains have joined their teams, along with players who played in the recent ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Pat Cummins joins SRH camp ahead of the IPL 2025

Pat Cummins has also reportedly reached Hyderabad on Sunday, March 16, and confirmed he will play the entire season. Despite the World Test Championship final being scheduled for June 11 at Lord’s, just two weeks after the IPL 2025 final on May 25, Cummins committed to playing in the league.

Notably, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sent a legal notice to South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch for breaching his contract. Bosch was picked by Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 2025 draft but later joined Mumbai Indians as Lizaad Williams’ replacement. Since IPL 2025 overlaps with PSL 2025, Bosch withdrew, leading PCB to seek justification for his actions.
