NEW DELHI: Wade Seccombe, the coach who led Brisbane Heat to their second BBL title earlier this year, has been appointed as the new high-performance manager for Melbourne Renegades. Meanwhile, Clint McKay, a former Australian pacer, will take on the same role for Melbourne Stars. These newly created positions aim to enhance the on-field performance of both teams.
The appointments of Seccombe and McKay are expected to strengthen the alignment between the two BBL clubs and the high-performance programme at Victoria, led by Graham Manou.
“It is really pleasing to be able to have two people of Clint and Wade’s calibre joining our cricket performance program at Cricket Victoria and working closely with both our Big Bash clubs,” Manou said, as quoted by cricket.com.au.
He emphasized their crucial role in talent management and identification, with a focus on T20 skills and potential.
“They will also be an active part of our existing elite and development programs, putting a renewed emphasis on T20 cricket within our programs,” Manou added.

In the past, BBL teams made list management decisions independently of Victoria’s programme. However, this is set to change with the new appointments, as exemplified by the recent recruitment of Josh Brown to both the Renegades and Victoria, showcasing the likely collaboration between the programmes in the future.
The Renegades, who have only reached the men’s Big Bash final once since their BBL|08 championship victory, are poised for a new captain and head coach following the retirements of Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh. The new leadership may take a more hands-on approach to nurture emerging talents such as Brown, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and Will Sutherland.
