The veteran Bangladesh National Cricket Team all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has landed himself in new trouble amid all the ongoing controversies surrounding his availability for the national team.
Shakib has been reported for a suspect action and has been told to undergo analysis of his bowling action by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Shakib Al Hasan was reported by umpires during a one-off appearance for Surrey
Shakib Al Hasan was reported by the umpires Steve O’Shaughnessy and David Millns during his one-off appearance for Surrey in the 59th match of the ongoing season of the County Championship at The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton. The match between Surrey and Somerset was played from September 09 to 12.
It was the first appearance of Shakib Al Hasan in the competition since a brief stint with Worcestershire in 2010-11 and he shined with his spin-bowling.
In the first innings, he bowled 33.5 overs and bagged 4 wickets for 97. The Bangladesh veteran was also impressive in the second innings as he bagged a 5-wicket haul in 29.3 overs and conceded 96 runs. With the bat, however, Shakib failed badly, scoring 12 runs in the first innings before bagging a duck in the second one.
Shakib’s contributions with the ball in the match went in vain as Somerset clinched an epic 111-run victory in the match. Notably, the Bangladesh all-rounder signed a short-term deal with Surrey as they missed eight players, including frontline spinners, Will Jacks and Dan Lawrence, because they were on England duty.
In the county match, an on-field umpire reported that he felt the action was suspect – BCB official
Shakib Al Hasan, despite bowling 63 overs in the match, was not warned at any stage, and it was only after the match that Steve O’Shaughnessy and David Millns reported his bowling action.
“In the county match, an on-field umpire reported that he felt the action was suspect. If Shakib wants to further play domestic cricket in England, he will have to appear in a test,” The Daily Star quoted a BCB official.
“If he is cleared, he will be able to play domestic cricket in England. The matter has no connection to international cricket or domestic cricket in other countries. The matter is under ECB jurisdiction and not related to ICC or other boards,” he added.
Shakib Al Hasan has not received any kind of ban as of yet, and according to ESPNcricinfo he is set to “undergo further tests in an approved location, with the expectation that this will occur within the next couple of weeks.”
Shakib Al Hasan to miss ODIs against Afghanistan
The star all-rounder Shakib has not played any international matches for the Bangladesh National Cricket Team since his appearance in the Test series against India.
He was set to play his farewell Test in Bangladesh, but at the last moment, he didn’t travel to the country due to security concerns.
Shakib Al Hasan also made himself unavailable for the ODI series against Afghanistan as the BCB boss, Faruque Ahmed, revealed that the all-rounder was not ready to take the load of international cricket at the moment and wanted some time off.
The Bangladesh team will be led by Najmul Hossain in the series despite his reluctance to lead the side, and the matches will be held on November 6, 9, and 11 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
